I was prompted today to update my settings in my "solve pc issues" accessible by clicking on the hidden icon.

This is just a day after defenders picked up a virus and alerted me.

Windows advised me not to turn off my computer and to immediately call them, I don't have a phone.

I disconnected from my internet provider server, ran a full scan and found nothing.

I then went into task manager and did an end task on the links that were open.

I am wondering this alert is actually Microsoft wanting me to update or not.

To be specific It's the Solve PC issues icon with the blue flag, 1 important message.

Thanks

When you click on the blue flag, what is the exact message you're getting?

Actually it's a white flag with an X inside a red circle.

Then a blue flag appears with "1 important message".

"Change Windows Update settings [important]"

"Open Action Center"

I am guessing it's a legitimate message from Microsoft but not 100% sure.

Thanks

It is.

Do you have Windows Updates turned off?

sorry, I never clicked on the blue flag.

I click on the "show hidden icons" to get the white flag first in which "1 important message" appears.

Updates was turned off.

Now I have a white flag with "no current issues detected".

The system is checking for updates.

Thanks, all appears well.
