New laptop's new CD tray makes random noise

A new Asus laptop's empty CD/DVD tray makes short low noises every so often, this happens sporadically and randomly with no specific action being the cause of it.

(A suggestion I saw upon researching didn't work for this, namely excluding the D drive from the antivirus real time scanner.)

 

Can this point to something being defective in the laptop? And assuming I choose to ignore it (as it isn't THAT disturbing), can it be dangerous if it is something defective causing this?

I found that in addition to the random times, when the computer wakes up from sleep it always makes that noise. And if I keep the DVD tray open, it won't make that noise when waking up.
