Good Day To All

I am a 65 year young  guy living in Thailand.

I am slowly learning my way around the internet and who are some of the Guru scammers

I have 40 years as a marketing consultant and a copywriter so I understand human nature.

I have  a 5 year old Asus laptop  that needs to be replaced very soon.

Here is my problem that I need help

I was told I have a virus so I am running Kaspersky's Antivirus software

First time it found 36 worms "worm.win32.autorun.bant "took 7 hours.

Computer still not working right -  having trouble downloading,  some of my videos won;t play.

SoI ran it againg yesterday   and 18 hours latter it still says 5 hours left?

I am wondering  if I should take my computer in and let the tech wipe the HD clean and reinstall the proms.  Here in Thailand it is extremely inexpensive for service.

Thank you inadvance for your help

If it has the original hard drive and not a custom built computer then you should be able to reformat and reinstall the OS yourself. Is the original hdd still installed?

You might prefer to remove the malware instead of reinstalling Windows I suggest you follow the directions below for starting a new topic

in the malware removal forum.

Please follow the instructions in the Malware Removal and Log Section Preparation Guide starting at Step 6.

  • If you cannot complete a step, then skip it and continue with the next.
  • In Step 6 there are instructions for downloading and running FRST which will create two logs.

When you have done that, post your logs in the Virus, Trojan, Spyware, and Malware Removal Logs forum, NOT here, for assistance by the Malware Response Team.

Start a new topic, give it a relevant title and post your log(s) along with a brief description of your problem, a summary of any anti-malware tools you have used and a summary of any steps that you have performed on your own. If you cannot produce any of the required logs...start the new topic anyway. Explain that you followed the Prep. Guide, were unable to create the logs, and describe what happened when you tried to create them. A member of the Malware Removal Team will walk you through, step by step, on how to clean your computer.

After doing this, please reply back in this thread with a link to the new topic so we can close this one.

DO NOT bump your new topic. Wait for a response from one of the Team Members.

Worms are cool.  Some of them you can browse in windows.  (you did not know that CodeRed and sasser could be file browsed?)
