Hi,

I'm running Windows 8.1 with latest patches.

Last week I started to have RocketTab blocks of ads in Chrome.   Only in Chrome, IE and Firefox are fine.

I've been googling forever trying to get rid of it.  Nothing worked.

- Its not listed in Add remove programs.

- A search in my whole system doesn't find any items 'RocketTab' or 'AddonJet', the two labels appearing on top of the browser ads.

- A search in the registry of the same terms returned nothing

Here's what I've done so far:

- I've scanned  with Malwarebytes (my main AV)

- Also ran JRT, Hitman and adwCleaner.  Only Hitman found some unrelated cookies but in Firefox in which I don't have the Rockettab problem.

- I completely deleted my Chrome profile and I used a backup from 3 months ago when definitely didn't have the problem.   However, the problem showed up again.

I ran out of ideas.   Can you help?

Thanks

If only Chrome is affected...

Reset Chrome...
Click on "Customize and control Google Chrome":

Click "Settings" then "Show advanced settings" at the bottom of the screen.
Click "Reset browser settings" button.
Restart Chrome.

If the above didn't help....

Reinstall Chrome...
If you want to save your bookmarks...
How to Backup Bookmarks in Google Chrome
If you want to save your passwords as well see here: http://www.intowindows.com/how-to-backup-saved-passwords-in-google-chrome-browser/

  • Close all Chrome windows and tabs.
  • Go to the Start menu > Control Panel. (Windows 8 users: Learn how to access the Control Panel)
  • Click Programs and Features.
  • Double-click Google Chrome.
  • Click Uninstall from the confirmation dialog. Delete your user profile information, like your browser preferences, bookmarks, and history, by selecting the "Also delete your browsing data" checkbox.

Install fresh copy.

Thanks for your prompt response.
I followed your first solution and it worked.  Then I started to add my extensions one at the time and it looks like the culprit is a Youtube downloader.

I looked at the scripts and there are references to RocketTab in two of them.

I really like the extension as is the only one that allows me to download from Youtube.  So ideally I would like to modify the two scripts to bypass the stupid Rockettab but I'm not proficient enough in js to modify them.

In any case, at least the problem is gone.

Thanks a lot for your help !
