Hi everyone!

My computer is operating very slowly. I often get errors and need to restart to clear them. Most of my problems started after downloading my firewall (zone alarm). I have ran spybot and downloaded all the up dates from windows. This helped alot but it is still slower than normal. The following is my hjt log maybe it will help in the diognosis. Thanks for the help.

Hi dino, I will check your log. It's goin' take 24 hours or more. In the meantime, sit back & relax. I check it, post it for review by experts & correct it if necessary before you see the recommendations. Yes, you do have a lot goin' on there. Please do not make any changes until you see my next post. As often as not, additional reboots can change things, also. If it's not too much trouble, just leave the PC on.

its pretty obvious that I have too much running at the same time but how and what do I get rid of?

The malware, first. Following these recommendations, dino.
Set your PC to: show hidden files. Check show hidden files & uncheck hide system files. Additional information here.

Open your C:\HJT folder and double-click the icon. Close everything except HijackThis, nothing else on your desktop.

Run Hijackthis: click Scan, and put a checkmark next to the following objects:
R1 - HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Search,SearchAssistant = about:blank
O16 - DPF: {1D4DB7D2-6EC9-47A3-BD87-1E41684E07BB} - http://imgfarm.com/images/nocache/funwebpr...etup1.0.0.5.cab
funweb products
When you're sure that files marked for deletion are correct, click the Fix button.

Reboot into Safe Mode (hit F8 key until menu shows up. Select "safe mode". Press "enter")

Clean out your Temp files and your Temporary Internet Files. Please do both steps:
Note: You could do these steps in normal mode, but some files might be in use and not allow you to delete them unles you are in Safe Mode.

Delete Temp Files
To clean out your temp files, click on Start and then run, and type %temp% and press the ok button. This should open up the temp directory that your machine uses. Please delete all files that are found there. If you get an error when deleting a file, skip that file and delete all the others. Doing this in Safe Mode you should be able to delete all the files.

Reboot your computer to go back to normal mode.

Delete Temporary Internet Files
Now I want you to open up Internet Explorer, and click on the Tools menu and then Internet Options. At the General tab, which should be the first tab you are currently on, click on the Delete Files button and put a checkmark in Delete offline content. Then press the OK button. This may take quite a while, so do not be alarmed with how long it takes. When it is done, your Temporary Internet Files will now be deleted.

Empty the recycle bin.

Run HijackThis again and post the new log as a reply to this post.
(Include comments regarding any problems you might still have, and let us know if its working better. Some additional options exist, and we can go over specific prevention for you then.)

I will have a thorough report & plan of attack for you.

Checking your log I found many optional startups are running, probably causing your PC's sluggishness. We concentrate on malware removal here. Discussions about "system optimization" such as your original question involves will be done elsewhere. You need to update windows IE, also. Visit Microsoft, please. MSIE: Internet Explorer v6.00 SP1 (6.00.2800.1106) should show in your next log.

OK, dino, I've studied your log(s) for a few days now. A couple things concern me regarding the sluggish performance:
1. optional startups
2. possible conflicts between anti-malware programs or with the operating system itself.
Specifically, how long have you had Zone Alarm, Symantec/Norton & Greatis Softwares RegRun 3 Security Suite Watchdog operating together?

and * 3. Microsoft updates...you've visited but they still are not installed.
Your IE should now be Internet Explorer v6.00 SP1 (6.00.2800.1106) not Internet Explorer v5.50 SP1 (5.50.4134.0600).
http://www.microsoft.com/ie is specifically for Internet Explorer Downloads/Updates. It might work better for you then the other site.

Is it still running slowly?
Have you used the msn toolbar & an updater service quite a while?

This can be done before you answer.
Set your PC to: show hidden files. Check show hidden files & uncheck hide system files. Additional information here.

Open your C:\HJT folder and double-click the icon. Close everything except HijackThis, nothing else on your desktop.
Run Hijackthis: click Scan, and put a checkmark next to each of the following objects:
O4 - Startup: PowerReg Scheduler.exe
O4 - Startup: Thumbs.db
When you're sure that files marked for deletion are correct, click the Fix button.

Reboot your computer to go back to normal mode

Run HijackThis again and post the new log as a reply to this post.

thanks for your patience, it is busy.

Hi there

I'm trying to fix an error with my Norton 2005 through nortons web site. I will also do the homework you instructed and repost. soon

The computer is getting a little faster after every step and the errors are getting fewer also. I just downloaded the latest msn version with the tool bar last month.

and this time I made sure I got internet explorer v6.00 sp1.

I will repost a new log soon.

thanks for the help

I'll keep an eye out for your post, dino. I too am chasing down new problems that just happened on my PC today. Oh, what fun. We're learnin', though!
