Hi guys, I just wanted to find a suitable computer forum so I could ask some question regarding my PC.

I couldn't honestly link you to the PC build I bought.. It appears to have retired? I'm not sure.  It was a 700 dollar-ish CyberPower Gamer Xtreme White/Blue build.

It was great for the money. We got a huge discount which is why we were able to buy it..

It started out as a great computer. However, since I like to game and make them, at that, I needed a more powerful GPU. Because the GPU it came with was only like a GTX 750.. It could not play the game I wanted to play without some lag, and I couldn't enjoy the definitive graphics at higher retina.  So I went out and bought a GTX 950. This card is absolutely amazing. Totally worth the big bucks.  We had no problem fitting into the PC build, and eventually it worked out perfectly.

However, after this has been done, and after time goes on and stuff. I just picked up on a few weird "issues" with the PC.  Some of these issues being,

The air coming out of the fan on the back of the case gets hot sometimes, and, it runs really slowly I can barely feel anything. (This varies, of course. It won't do this upon start up or light gaming, etc..)

And just today, the boot startup time of the PC increased more than it should have. Not sure if this is a problem with anything or not, but I just picked up on that. It used to take like 15 seconds or less.. But it was only one time. I'm not sure.

Are these problems anything serious? Are they actually problems? Is the graphic card relevant to these problems?

I'm not that big into computer hardware. I didn't even know how to exchange video cards.. We figured it out though. :P

Thank you! I do realize this post is probably long and weird.. Sorry if it is so! lol :P

Update:
I've never experienced the PC overheating. In a sense of the screen freezing during a game or whatnot.. When ever I play that graphically-demanding game the PC always pulls through, from what I've noticed. Temperatures seem some-what normal as well. Last time I monitored them.

Update 2:
Sorry for these last-minute updates.  But the fan often makes this really weird, almost crackling noise. It's not doing it now, it's strange.. Could something be stuck in it or something? That's one thing I'll truly never understand.

Please download MiniToolBox  , save it to your desktop and run it.

Checkmark the following checkboxes:
List last 10 Event Viewer log
  List Installed Programs
List Users, Partitions and Memory size.

Click Go and paste the content into your next post.

Also...please Publish a Snapshot using Speccy taking care to post the link of the snapshot in your next post.

Go to Piriform's website, and download the free version on the left.  Click Download from Piriform.com (the FileHippo link requires an extra click). Or if you want to use a portable version of Speccy (which doesn't require installation), click the builds page link and download the portable version. You will now be asked where you want to save the file. The best place to put it is the Desktop, as it will be easy to find later.

After the file finishes downloading, you are ready to run Speccy. If you downloaded the installer, simply double-click on it and follow the prompts until installation is complete. If you downloaded the portable version, you will need to unzip it before use. Right-click the ZIP file and click Extract all. Click Next. Open up the extracted folder and double-click on Speccy.

Once inside Speccy, it will look similar to this (with your computer's specifications, of course):

post-33068-0-86653600-1480692866_thumb.j

Now, at the top, click File > Publish Snapshot.

Click Yes > then Copy to Clipboard

Now, once you are back in the forum topic you are posting in, click the ADD REPLY or REPLY TO THIS TOPIC button. Right-click in the empty space of the Reply box and click Paste. Then, click Add Reply below the Reply box.

Using something like Speedfan, set your computer fan to run only at top speed, there is no harm in doing that, I've been doing that for years with my desktop.  And, follow Hamlius' advice, he will not steer you wrong.

Thank you for the replies. I will run MiniToolbox when I have the time, and will report it back here.

Regarding Speedfan however, it seems like a really complicated tool. And I don't wanna try messing around with stuff or I'll break something..

It is complicated; I was hoping a quick setting for the fan...

There is a very good chance that a computer of this age has an accumulation of dust, I would suggest that you open the side case cover and see if there is an a lot of dust inside, especially around or in the fan and heatsink assembly on the motherboard.  If there is a significant amount of dust inside you should purchase a canned duster.  (This is often mistakenly referred to as "canned air", the duster uses an inert gas to blow out the dust)

Before you touch anything inside the case you will need to touch the metal of the case to discharge any static electricity.  A electrostatic discharge can kill board components.  I would also suggest that you not disassemble anything inside the case.

Thanks dc. I just recently cleaned it with canned air not too long ago, and since the front part of the case is see-through I can just look through it to see if I spot any dust clumps. And nothing looks too bad, but just to be sure I'll do another cleaning some time soon.

Have you monitor your computer's temperature? One reason of it may be due to overheating. You might consider as well checking your fans. However, if the pc you actually bought is old enough then maybe the thermal paste is obsolete as well. If this may seems to be the problem, remove the heat sink then re-apply the new thermal paste.

You need to post the Speccy snapshot.  There is information in this report which can help determine what types of problems may be involved.  The bottom line is that you have not provided us with enough information to even guess at what is going on.

Bought gaming rig at deep discount and everything was fine until upgraded video card.  Then problems.

I wonder if the VC upgrade didn't put greater demand on your Power Supply than it was capable of delivering.  Post manufacturer, model and rated power output of PSU.  Also post temps and voltages of machine as reported in BIOS.

Update 2:
Sorry for these last-minute updates.  But the fan often makes this really weird, almost crackling noise. It's not doing it now, it's strange.. Could something be stuck in it or something? That's one thing I'll truly never understand.

Just noticed this.  Cracking noises from PSU area could be very, very bad.  the importance of vetting the PSU has risen from 7 to 10 now IMO.  A bad PSU can literally kill every. single. component. in. the. computer.

Motherboard, video card, CPU, hard drive.  I've never seen it, but I've read about it online.  This is really serious.  Do you smell ozone or burning electronics.  Do not game with this rig or subject to heavy load until PSU is checked.  Crackling is very, very bad.  I've read of one situation where the crackling bad PSU started a house fire.  Don't run it unattended until PSU is checked out.

You need more information in order to make any decision regarding the origin of the fan noise.

We don't know which fan they are referring to.  From the description that was provided this sounds like there could be a wire being struck by a fan.  If you look at the voltages posted in the Speccy you will notice that the rail voltages are well within their normal parameters.

@ComputerGuy1500

Please post the make and model of the PSU, this is very important.

You need to determine which fan is making this noise.  It would be well worth opening the case and taking a look to see if there is a fan striking a wire or some other material.

Before you touch anything inside the case you need to touch the metal of the interior of the case to discharge any static electricity in your body.  A discharge as small as 10 Volts can kill board components.

There is a old mechanics trick which can be used to help isolate the location of the fan.  This uses the principal of the transmission of sound through a solid material.  Mechanics use to use a long screwdriver to locate where certain noises were coming from.  They would hold the screwdriver by the handle against their ear and place the blade of the screwdriver on different parts of the engine to determine where the noise was the loudest.  Once they know where the area of the noise is coming from it's fairly simple to locate the source.  You can do the same using a long handle wooden or plastic spoon.  Place the spoon portion against your ear, then place the handle end against the fans one at a time till you find the one making the noise.  The sound will be amplified through the spoon making it pretty obvious which fan is making the noise.

Once you locate the fan inspect it visually to see if you see anything being struck by the fan blades, wires, ziptie, etc.  Post which fan this is and we can go from there.

I just realized that statement was aimed at the OP, and not at me.  Which was also my reaction to the OP's post as to the source of the "crackling".  So I'll spell it out for the OP and anyone else that may find themselves in a situation like this.

When electronics start making "crackling" or "sparking" noises, it stops being a computer problem, and instead becomes an extreme safety issue.  We're not working on a computer at this point, we're trying to prevent a house full of people from being burned to death in the middle of the night.  I was on another forum years ago when a person like the OP posted a problem (like the OP's) and at some point the thread went dormant for a week or so until one day the OP posted to say his house caught fire, in the middle of the day, caught some curtains on fire, the fire department was called and no one was hurt, but only because someone happened to be home at the time.

So, as I (and dc3, I assume) reads this thread, we decide that the gravity of the situation means we don't trust the OP to know whether or not the source of the noise is a fan (safer) or the PSU (DANGEROUS).  Whether it's a mechanical noise, or some chinese-made and poor-quality PSU arcing and creating sparks internally.  Maybe the OP is right. Maybe it's just a fan rubbing on a zip-tie.  Or maybe his house burned up last night.  And worse.

Finally I am as skeptical a person about online FUD as you'll ever find, but despite that this one IMO really does warrant what others might term an "over-reaction".  If it's a fan rubbing on a zip-tie, I'll take the hit and people can feel free to mock all they want. IDC.  In this case, this level of reaction is warranted until such a time as it can be shown that the safety concerns are unfounded.

And, from a technical perspective, follow my reasoning. The system worked good until the OP purchase a Video Card upgrade.  More powerful VC's require MORE POWER.  Creating a higher demand on the PSU may be the difference between "barely working" and catastrophic failure.
