Hi my newly purchased probook is starting slow and running slow

 

I have downloaded cc cleaner etc and nothing works.  I hope my cmd file helps.

Please download MiniToolBox  , save it to your desktop and run it.
 
Checkmark the following checkboxes:
  List last 10 Event Viewer log
  List Installed Programs
  List Users, Partitions and Memory size.
 
Click Go and paste the content into your next post.
 
Also...please Publish a Snapshot using Speccy taking care to post the link of the snapshot in your next post.

   Go to Piriform's website, and download the free version on the left.  Click Download from Piriform.com (the FileHippo link requires an extra click). Or if you want to use a portable version of Speccy (which doesn't require installation), click the builds page link and download the portable version. You will now be asked where you want to save the file. The best place to put it is the Desktop, as it will be easy to find later.

    After the file finishes downloading, you are ready to run Speccy. If you downloaded the installer, simply double-click on it and follow the prompts until installation is complete. If you downloaded the portable version, you will need to unzip it before use. Right-click the ZIP file and click Extract all. Click Next. Open up the extracted folder and double-click on Speccy.
 
     Once inside Speccy, it will look similar to this (with your computer's specifications, of course):

     Now, at the top, click File > Publish Snapshot.

     Click Yes > then Copy to Clipboard

Now, once you are back in the forum topic you are posting in, click the ADD REPLY or REPLY TO THIS TOPIC button. Right-click in the empty space of the Reply box and click Paste. Then, click Add Reply below the Reply box.

What I see:

 

a.  Win 7 Pro, SP1, 64-bit installed 12 Feb 2017.  Total of 2GB RAM currently installed.  Based on O/S, I would suggest a minimum of 4GB RAM.

 

b.  Multiple system protection programs installed:  Bit Defender, AVG, McAfee.  I would uninstall each of these...and use the native Windows Firewall and Microsoft Security Essentials.

 

c.  AVG junk, PC Tuneup software installed.  I would uninstall this along with other AVG software.

 

d.  Corrupt system index/catalog errors.  These can be addressed, see Corrupt Index Fix, Aura - http://www.bleepingcomputer.com/forums/t/565239/dell-laptop-running-slowly/page-2#entry3620243 .

This is your problem:

You have run out of memory, and Windows is writing to the scratch disk to prevent the system from crashing. That drastically slows your computer to almost a stall. You have 2 gigs of RAM, and the system and loading peripherals is using 93% of it. You need minimally 4gig of RAM or that unit will never perform properly.

Next, all of these retail units, especially HP and Dell, come stuffed to the top with adware, trialware, and general garbageware. The vendors of these clutter-items pay to install these, so it's a money-maker for them. Do everything Hamluis suggested, and carefully check for others that you don't need. Usually Microsoft Office trial is included on these, along with browsers, antivirus programs (as Hamluis said), games and others. In addition, HP loads "helpful" tools that are supposed to "help" you configure Windows utilities that Windows has perfectly good screens to do the same thing. Among many are "helper" utilities to configure your internet access settings, Performance tweakers, etc. and all these load on boot. You can Google these by name and get information. Many can be uninstalled through Remove Programs in Control Panel, and sometimes must be deleted manually in Explore.

I do the above all the time when clients bring in their new laps and notebooks, and after an hour of removing garbage the unit starts running properly. You can always post back with questions if you are unsure about something.

But.....above all else, you need more RAM, and you need to remove silent and unnecessary memory loaders from the system.

I purchased 2 gb of RAM and deleted all the programs that you advised.

 

I am now literally The Flying Scotsman.
