Outlook Express 6 problem

After I boot up my computer (Compaq Presario SR10102NX) running Windows XP Home, SP 2 and I open up Outlook Express 6, after it downloads 1 or 2 emails, OE shuts down. I have to open it up again in order to continue downloading emails.
Has anyone else ever had this particular problem? Please help me if you can. It's very annoying

Does it shut down, or does it time out?

PS, you might want to check the OE inbox, etc. files, which sometimes never clear and become too large. The path is: WINDOWS/Application Data/a bunch of alph-numeric/Microsoft/Outlook Express. You can delete any overly large .dbx file (inbox, sent items, etc.) and they will reset when you start OE the next time; you will lose all information, but it might be enough to reset it so you can use it.
