It appears I'm in a bit of a spot. I've run AdAware, Spybot, McAfee AVERT Stinger and have Symantec corporate edition (all up to date) yet the stuff persists. Any help is appreciated. Many thanks.

Here is my log:

Hi and welcome. My name is kairis and I will be helping you.
You have some crap there! But don't worry; we'll get you cleaned up!
Please follow my steps in the right order...

We'll start with this:
I need to see another HijackThis log, but you need to extract (unzip) HijackThis first.
Otherwise the backups made when items are fixed won't be secure.
The easiest way to accomplish this is to reinstall and delete any copies of HijackThis.zip you have saved.
Please download the self-extracting version of HijackThis from here:
HijackThis_sfx download
Save HijackThis_sfx to your desktop.
Double-click the file then click the Unzip button. Then close the Self-Extractor window.
Using My Computer/Windows Explorer, navigate to C:\Program Files\HijackThis and double click on HijackThis.exe to run it.
If you would like to make a shortcut for your Desktop so it's more easily accessable, right click HijackThis.exe and choose Send To > Desktop (create shortcut).
Please run the extracted HijackThis.exe from now on. Delete any copies of HijackThis.zip that you have saved.
Open HijackThis and click Do a system scan and save a log file. Copy the entire contents of that log and post it here by clicking the Add Reply button.

Step 1:
I need you to rename Hijackthis because I suspect that you may have the Vundo infection that can hide some entries in your log.
Please go to the folder where you saved Hijackthis.exe
Right-click on it, then select Rename.
"Name it as: scanner.exe and than reboot.

Step 2:
Please download SmitfraudFix (by S!Ri)
Extract the content (a folder named SmitfraudFix) to your Desktop.
Open the SmitfraudFix folder and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #1 - Search by typing 1 and press "Enter"; a text file will appear, which lists infected files (if present).
Please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply.
Note : process.exe is detected by some antivirus programs
(AntiVir, Dr.Web, Kaspersky) as a "RiskTool"; it is not a virus, but a program used to stop system processes.
Antivirus programs cannot distinguish between "good" and "malicious" use of such programs, therefore they may alert the user.

http://www.beyondlogic.org/consulting/proc...processutil.htm

Step 3:
In your next reply, please include the following logs:Fresh Hijackthis, and Smitfraudfix report. Thanks.

Kairis,

As an aside, when I did the search for the HijackThis.zip file to remove it, I found numerous small zip files in the C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Spybot - Search & Destroy\Recovery directory. Is it safe to delete these at any time?

Now the logs. Thanks again

Hi and thanks for the log.
You ask: As an aside, when I did the search for the HijackThis.zip file to remove it, I found numerous small zip files in the C:\Documents and Settings\All Users\Application Data\Spybot - Search & Destroy\Recovery directory. Is it safe to delete these at any time?
Yes you can delete yhese.

I can`t find a firewall...
Use a Firewall -
* I can not stress how important it is that you use a Firewall on your computer.
* Without a firewall your computer is susceptible to being hacked and taken over.
* Simply using a Firewall in its default configuration can lower your risk greatly.
You should also have a good firewall. Here are 3 free ones available for personal use:Lets continue:
Step 1:
Click on start, settings, control panel and double-click on Add or Remove Programs. From within Add or Remove Programs uninstall the following if they exist:
webHancer Survey Companion
Services
PCODEC

Then reboot your computer - IMPORTANT

Step 2:
You should print out these instructions, or copy them to a NotePad file for reading while in Safe Mode, because you will not be able to connect to the Internet to read from this site.

Next, please reboot your computer in Safe Mode by doing the following :
  • Restart your computer
  • After hearing your computer beep once during startup, but before the Windows icon appears, tap the F8 key continually;
  • Instead of Windows loading as normal, a menu with options should appear;
  • Select the first option, to run Windows in Safe Mode, then press "Enter".
  • Choose your usual account.
Once in Safe Mode, open the SmitfraudFix folder again and double-click smitfraudfix.cmd
Select option #2 - Clean by typing 2 and press "Enter" to delete infected files.
You will be prompted : "Registry cleaning - Do you want to clean the registry ?"; answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter" in order to remove the Desktop background and clean registry keys associated with the infection.
The tool will now check if wininet.dll is infected. You may be prompted to replace the infected file (if found); answer "Yes" by typing Y and press "Enter".
The tool may need to restart your computer to finish the cleaning process; if it doesn't, please restart it into Normal Windows.
A text file will appear onscreen, with results from the cleaning process; please copy/paste the content of that report into your next reply along with a fresh HijackThis log.
The report can also be found at the root of the system drive, usually at C:\rapport.txt

Step 3:
Please download Combofix
to your desktop.
Double click combofix.exe and follow the prompts.
When it's done running it will produce a log for you. Please post that log in your next reply.

Important Note - Do not mouseclick combofix's window whilst it's running. That may cause it to stall.

Step 4:
With all other windows closed, start your HijackThis and Click "Do a System Scan Only"
Click in the check-box to the left of each of the following entries, if found:
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [NI.UERS_0001_NI57M1124] "C:\Documents and Settings\Benson\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\SP6F49Y7\ErrorSafeScannerInstall[1].exe" -nag
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [webHancer Survey Companion] "C:\Program Files\webHancer\Programs\whSurvey.exe"
O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [Services] C:\g.exe
O16 - DPF: TruePass EPF 7,0,100,717 - https://blrscr3.egs-seg.gc.ca/applets/entru...sapplet-epf.cab
O21 - SSODL: coursings - {f8d02387-789a-4c0f-a1d8-8a93f33ee4df} - C:\WINDOWS\system32\yephk.dll (file missing)
Select Fix Checked
That should be it so please post
A new HijackThis log to confirm

You have Trojan named Backdoor.Graybird.Q backdoor Trojan.
Please read this Link

Step 5:
In your next reply, please include the following logs: Combofix report, Fresh Hijackthis, and Smitfraud report. Thanks.

Kairis,

Things seem to be OK. Of the five things you listed to check, there were only three present; WhSurvey.exe & yephk.dll weren't there.

As for the firewall, I used to have ZoneAlarm but it had issues with some of the software on the computer. When I had this and another computer networked, the router was my firewall. I guess I should take care of that issue.

Here are the logs. I await your judgement.

Hi again

Lets go...

Please download KILLBOX ,extract it to your desktop.
Note: In the event you already have Killbox, this is a new version that I need you to download.
Save it to your desktop.
Double-click on Killbox.exe to run it.
Put a tick by Standard File Kill.
In the "Full Path of File to Delete" box, copy and paste each of the following lines one at a time:

C:\Documents and Settings\Benson\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\Content.IE5\SP6F49Y7\ErrorSafeScannerInstall[1].exe" -nag

Click on the button that has the red circle with the X in the middle after you enter each file.
It will ask for confimation to delete the file.
Click Yes.
Continue with that procedure until you have pasted all of these in the "Paste Full Path of File to Delete" box.
Killbox may tell you that one or more files do not exist.
If that happens, just continue on with all the files. Be sure you don't miss any.
Exit the Killbox.

If your computer does not restart automatically, please restart it manually.
After rebooting, open up Killbox again. Click File -> Logs -> Actions History Log
Post this log in your next reply.

(don't forget to copy and paste REGEDIT4)

Save this as "fix2.reg" Choose to save as *all files and place it on your desktop.
Doubleclick on it and when it asks you if you want to merge the contents to the registry, click yes/ok.

Go ahead and uninstall Killbox.
