It appears that there's something that's trying to access a folder that doesn't exist on your system.

What things did you do to try and recover?

Have you tried to create another user profile?

Had you scanned for viruses?

Have you tried this:  https://forums.techguy.org/threads/solved-c-windows-system32-config-systemprofile-desktop.808717/

Have you tried manually creating a Desktop folder in that location?  If you have (and it didn't help), then try the following:

- copy data from the C:\Users\Default\Desktop to the folder above and see if that works.

- if it doesn't, then copy data from your User Profile Desktop folder and put it in the folder above and see if that works.

Just a quick note.

Although many others have seen this same error, there isn't any (that I can find) explanation of why that folder was created in that location.

My 2 W10 systems don't have that folder in that location (they each have an AppData folder and nothing else) - so I have to wonder if there's another Windows component - or a 3rd party component that causes it.

This is a more recent link to the Techguy forums posts:  https://forums.techguy.org/threads/c-windows-system32-config-systemprofile-desktop.1183793/

And here's the Google search that I used to find most of this stuff:  https://www.google.com/search?q=windows\system32\config\systemprofile\desktop&ie=utf-8&oe=utf-8

Good luck!

OK, let's start with basics.  What's the make and model of your system?  If it's a custom built system, give us the make and model of the motherboard.

Do you have recovery media for the system?  If so, how did you get/make it?
If you don't have it, are you able to get it?  If not, here's a link to create Microsoft recovery media for Windows 8:  https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/software-download/windows8
