Computer running slowly, can't figure out cause.

Lately my laptop has been running slowly and I can't figure out what's going on. Everything from browsers to skype seem to lag. I've run virus scans and I don't think I'm infected. I haven't really touched anything else cuz I don't really know what to do. Hoping someone can help me out or point me in the right direction. I'm using Windows 8.1, hope this is in the right section.

download and run ADWCleaner and Malwarebytes Anti Malware

hi!

 Try to download and install autoruns from here  https://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysinternals/bb5 45021.aspx please . Then go to options>scan options>check "verify code sig" and "check virustotal"

then uncheck "hide virustotal"  click rescan .

 go to file>save to save file. Upload file here.

There are so many things that could slow a computer.  In order to get started please do the following to provide us with information regarding you system and the condition of you components.

 

Please download and install Speccy to provide us with information about your computer.  Clicking on this link will automatically initiate the download.

The one piece of information the Speccy will not provide is the make and model of your PSU.  If you know what it is please post this along with the Speccy link which will be generated.

When Speccy opens you will see a screen similar to the one below.

Click on File which is outlined in red in the screen above, and then click on Publish Snapshot.
 
The following screen will appear, click on Yes.

The following screen will appear, click on Copy to Clipboard.

In your next post right click inside the Reply to Topic box, then click on Paste.  This will load a link to the Speccy log.

 

 

It has been suggested that you download run Malwarebytes and ADWCleaner.  Neither of these applications are not allowed to be run in the Windows forums for security purposes.  You would need to have a Moderator move your topic to the Am I Infected? What Do I Do? forum or start your own topic there.  I feel that there should be an exception for ADWCleaner as it can find third party programs that have been bundled with other downloads and will automatically be installed with the main program you intended to install unless you do the custom installation which will provide you with the opportunity to see these and decline their installation.  

 

Another program you can run is the Junkware Removal TOOL.

 

Please download and install Junkware Removal Tool.

Open your browser and go to Downloads, then click on the Junkware Removal Tool to install it.  

Click on Run to initiate the installation.

To avoid potential conflicts, temporarily disable your antivirus and firewall.  You will want to be offline when you do this.

Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista, 7, or 8; instead of double-clicking, right-mouse click JRT.exe and select Run as Administrator.

The tool will open and start scanning your system.

Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.

On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.  Copy and this and then post this in your topic.

Press the Windows key windowskey_zps092d5c75.png and the R key to open the Run box.

When the Run box opens copy and paste shell:appsfolders, then click/tap on OK.

 

Copy and paste the results in your topic.

Sorry, I'm not sure what you mean... shell:appsfolders doesn't work but shell:appsfolder does, but I don't know what to copy from there.

Let's do something easier.

 

Please download MiniToolBox to your desktop.

Right-click on MiniToolBox.exe and select Run as Administrator.

You will see an image like the one below.

Click on the following checkbox only:
 
• List Installed Programs

 Click on Go to start the scan.  Once it is finished highlight the text, then copy and paste it in your topic.
