hi i have a good desktop computer i do not use, i want to convert it into a windows server to run my software programs  on, i know i have to buy an M/S server program and i will buy new SSD drives and upgrade the RAM is there anything else i would have to do , and is there any server maintenance program available to fix errors etc , thanks donar

There shouldn't be. If you're going to use it as a domain controller don't forget you will need user CAL's for each user accessing the server. Also if you use it as a file server I would setup some type of backup.

Also use VeeamBackupenpoint, its free and would be just fine for you in this case.

hi dna9, i have at this time 2 x vb.net programs running on a vps from , contabo , munich germany , have been giving them 70 odd AUD  a month for 5/6 years ,and  we are working slowly on 2 more programs.

we are getting NBN here i think in a short time , the techs were working in the street last week , i asked them and yes they were upgrading us to NBN , we have never got over the last 10 years ADSL or  ADSL 2 , only satellite or just lately mobile broadband , cannot run a server or 2 on either of them , good luck , don
