I have recently installed Windows 10, should CompatTelRunner.exe still be running?  I found it running using lots of disks cycles, although not much cpu.

The file Compatibility Telemetry is a Windows system file, rarely causes issues. The file CompatTelRunner.exe is located in C:\Windows\System32 folder. It allows Microsoft to ensure compatibility if you want to update to the Windows latest version.

you can disable CompatTelRunner.exe from Task Scheduler

  • Press Windows + R Key, and type taskschd.msc to open Task Scheduler.
  • Go to Task Scheduler Library -> Microsoft -> Windows -> Application Experience
  • Look for Microsoft Compatibility Appraiser. Right-click it and select Disable.
  • Restart your computer
