I'd like my desktop background (and/or lock screen image -- whatever is easiest/reasonably doable) to display a countdown, to a date I've specified.

Does such a thing exist, or could it be created fairly easily?

I'd suggest you take a look at the plethora of Countdown apps (all I did was search on countdown, then limit the results to apps once they were up) on the Store.

It looks like there are a number of them that would suit your needs, probably on your desktop rather than the lock screen, but I'm not certain as some may show on both.

Sorry, I'm not sure what apps you are referring to...? I'm asking about a laptop, not a smartphone.

If you are using Windows 10 then you need to get used to the idea that apps exist for Windows 10 just like they do for Android and iOS.

If the Store app (icon looks like a shopping bag with handles on it) is not visible then hit the Windows Key and immediately type "Store" and it will be the first thing returned in your search results.  Open it and then search on "countdown" then, after those results come up (since you don't seem to want games, movies, music, etc.) then use the dropdown filter box to limit the search to apps.

There are scads of countdown apps, many if not most free, in the Windows 10 Store.

I just got the computer and am new to Windows 10; thanks for your understanding.

So, I found the store and faced my first challenge with the rather craptastic search dysfunctionality. Tried a couple "apps" but quickly ran out of patience.

If anyone knows of a free and zero-ad way to have a "day countdown" display on the desktop, I'm interested.
