This is about the cheapest yet decent quality reader with the most cross compatibility I've found.

Delkin USB 3.0 Universal Memory Card Reader

Example: https://www.amazon.com/Delkin-Universal-Memory-Reader-DDREADER-42/dp/B004WEPDK2

Readers read and I've never found a reader that wrote. Especially for those prices. Plan on quite a price jump for a cross compatibility reader and writer.

I've only dealt with three different types of readers. So quite possible just my limited experience. And I have not dealt with newer equipment. Hopefully you are correct. Thank you for your input.

Neither have I. This includes about a half dozen or so different card readers (includes a SD only card reader built into my MBP, a multiple type card reader that I installed in a drive bay to an internal USB header on my built Windows tower, several USB 2.0 multiple type card readers, and a newer purchased USB 3.0 SD card reader).
