I have a head scratcher of a problem and I just can't figure it out.

It goes like this:

Day 1 - Use the computer - everything works fine, no malware of virus found. At the end of the day, I try to

turn the computer off. The screen goes purple with the words Shutting Down show up with the dots moving in a circle, as you'd expect. But then after a couple of seconds the background reappears, with the icons all there, as if I turned the computer on. Everything set to begin at startup starts again, and in a matter of seconds the computer is ready to go - and I didn't tell it to do that. The computer does not go through a restart. It simply re-kicks in like I awoke it from Sleep mode.

I have no choice but to do a hard shut down by holding down the power button for 5 seconds. I try to do it after the HD light stops flickering away to minimize the chance that something gets corrupted and I can't use the computer at all. So, the computer is powered off, and then it's time to go to bed. Then....

Day 2 - Power up the computer, everything works fine. When finished, I go the Start button again, then Power and have the computer Shut Down. It shuts down normally like it should. Until the following day....

Day 3 - Go back to Day 1 and repeat.

How do I fix this? I am afraid that sooner or later something is going to get so corrupted that I can't even turn on my computer.

Please someone help!!

TIA.

Thank you so much for the response.

I've attached the file as requested.
