OpenOffice can open Microsoft Office documents and is free. I use it instead of Microsoft office, and it works great. You can download it here.

Softmaker FreeOffice

I vote for LibreOffice. I think that it is a great alternative to Microsoft Office.

If you use it, please donate.

Libreoffice by far, sure it may be old fashioned in terms of looks but offers great MS office compatibility.
