Computer keeps freezing, programs not responding

Greetings all.

I'm having trouble using my PC as EVERY program keeps freezing and not responding randomly. On startup everything has to freeze for at least 15 minutes for it to work normally. Even after that it freezes occasionally. I have no viruses or trojans in my PC so I'm sure it's not software related.

 

Here are my specs:-

Intel core i7 950 @ 3.06GHz

NVIDIA GeForce 9600 GT

Kingston 10 GB DDR3 RAM

Intel motherboard model number: DX58SO2

600W power supply

Seagate 1 TB HDD

Check your power usage. 600 watts may not be quite enough to feed everything when all of the devices are trying to power up.

Please download MiniToolBox  , save it to your desktop and run it.
 
Checkmark the following checkboxes:
  List last 10 Event Viewer log
  List Installed Programs
  List Users, Partitions and Memory size.
 
Click Go and paste the content into your next post.
 
Also...please Publish a Snapshot using Speccy taking care to post the link of the snapshot in your next post.

   Go to Piriform's website, and download the free version on the left.  Click Download from Piriform.com (the FileHippo link requires an extra click). Or if you want to use a portable version of Speccy (which doesn't require installation), click the builds page link and download the portable version. You will now be asked where you want to save the file. The best place to put it is the Desktop, as it will be easy to find later.

    After the file finishes downloading, you are ready to run Speccy. If you downloaded the installer, simply double-click on it and follow the prompts until installation is complete. If you downloaded the portable version, you will need to unzip it before use. Right-click the ZIP file and click Extract all. Click Next. Open up the extracted folder and double-click on Speccy.
 
     Once inside Speccy, it will look similar to this (with your computer's specifications, of course):

     Now, at the top, click File > Publish Snapshot.

     Click Yes > then Copy to Clipboard

Now, once you are back in the forum topic you are posting in, click the ADD REPLY or REPLY TO THIS TOPIC button. Right-click in the empty space of the Reply box and click Paste. Then, click Add Reply below the Reply box.

It appears to me that your CPU is running at close to the recommended max (68 Celsius).

 

Overheating could account for the symptoms you describe.

 

You also seem to have an unnecessary exposure to malware, with no AV and no security updates installed that are of any consequence...and running a torrent program.

I noticed that the voltage on ATX +5V rail seems to be very high: 12.235V. Wrong reading? Or could that be the cause of the problem?

In this case I would check +5v rail voltage (and the others) using another software, like HWMonitor.

If the computer functions with a Linux Mint 17.3/18.1 Live CD (booted from a USB 2.0 drive is best), that would seem to eliminate power concerns, mainboard/cpu/gpu, and leave only the drive/OS install integrity.

 

 

(One really does not KNOW one has no virus/malware unless it was a fresh install from known good media, and, still freezing, while disconnected from internet.)
