the first time I press the power button Win 7 runs that little blue circle endlessly without out starting.

Then I shut down and restart and windows starts.

Today win did a check disk. Apparently there was a weird file from skincare malaysia I had nothing to do with.

My virus scans: superantispyware, avast, mbam have said nothing over the last few days, but there may be something they are missing. Either that or there is a mechanical defect.

I ran CCleaner recently.

I just ran MBAM again with no bad results but I am posting the file anyway.

Laptop Sony Vaio

Win 7 pro 64 bit

dual boot with linux mint 17

500 gb total split between the two OS's.

Any help on this would be appreciated.

Hello, did you run the registry cleaning portion of CCleaner? That may have removed something important.

cvMlKv6.pngESET Online Scanner
  • Click here to download the installer for ESET Online Scanner and save it to your Desktop.
  • Disable all your antivirus and antimalware software - see how to do that here.
  • Right click on esetsmartinstaller_enu.exe and select Run as Administrator.
  • Place a checkmark in YES, I accept the Terms of Use, then click Start. Wait for ESET Online Scanner to load its components.
  • Select Enable detection of potentially unwanted applications.
  • Click Advanced Settings, then place a checkmark in the following:
    • Remove found threats
    • Scan archives
    • Scan for potentially unsafe applications
    • Enable Anti-Stealth technology
  • Click Start to begin scanning.
  • ESET Online Scanner will start downloading signatures and scan. Please be patient, as this scan can take quite some time.
  • When the scan is done, click List threats (only available if ESET Online Scanner found something).
  • Click Export, then save the file to your desktop.
  • Click Back, then Finish to exit ESET Online Scanner.

Thanks for your response.

I run CCleaner once a week or so, so I did not feel I had to run it this time.

This problem started just within the last couple of days. I have not run CCleaner since then.

I was just about to run Adwarecleaner, when I got your email.

OK, Run these also..
zcMPezJ.pngAdwCleaner
  • Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode and save to your Desktop.
  • Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool. Vista/Windows 7/8 users right-click and select Run As Administrator
  • Click on the Scan button.
  • AdwCleaner will begin...be patient as the scan may take some time to complete.
  • After the scan has finished, click on the Report button...a logfile (AdwCleaner[R0].txt) will open in Notepad for review.
  • The contents of the log file may be confusing. Unless you see a program name that you know should not be removed, don't worry about it. If you see an entry you want to keep, let me know about it.
  • Copy and paste the contents of that logfile in your next reply.
  • A copy of all logfiles are saved in the C:\AdwCleaner folder which was created when running the tool.
lv0mVRW.pngJunkware Removal Tool
  • Please download Junkware Removal Tool to your desktop.
  • Shut down your protection software now to avoid potential conflicts.
  • Run the tool by double-clicking it. If you are using Windows Vista, 7, or 8; instead of double-clicking, right-mouse click JRT.exe and select "Run as Administrator".
  • The tool will open and start scanning your system.
  • Please be patient as this can take a while to complete depending on your system's specifications.
  • On completion, a log (JRT.txt) is saved to your desktop and will automatically open.
  • Post the contents of JRT.txt into your next message.

I'll be back in a few hours. Let me know how it is after ESET scan.

ESET found no threats.

This may mean the problem starting up is mechanical.

This laptop was bought in 2011.

A new HDD was put in about 2 years ago.

I will do the junkware scan next.

There may be file corruption.

Download Windows Repair (All in One) from this site

Install the program then run it.

NOTE 1. In Windows Vista, 7 and 8 right click on the program, click "Run As Administrator".
NOTE 2. Disable your antivirus program before running Windows Repair.

Go to Step 2 and click on Check button next to 1. See If Check Disk Is Needed.
If the tool indicates that the Check Disk is needed click on Do It button next to 2. Check Disk.
In that case make sure you restart computer.

p22004342.gif

Once the above is done go to Step 3 and allow it to run System File Check by clicking on Do It button:

p22004343.gif

Go to Step 4 and under "System Restore" click on Create button:

Go to Start Repairs tab and click Start button.

Leave all checkmarks as they're.
NOTE for Windows 8 users. Reset Registry Permissions is NOT checked by design.

Click on Start button.

After restarting how is it?
How do I get help? Who is helping me?For the time will come when men will not put up with sound doctrine. Instead, to suit their own desires, they will gather around them a great number of teachers to say what their itching ears want to hear....Become a BleepingComputer fan: Facebook

I hope I remembered to disable all antivirus before running. I can't remember clearly.

Some things are worse. I have an encrypted email account and now I cannot check the boxes of individual emails in the inbox list in order to manage them.

Also, all the graphics seem to be bleached out. Like on this site, it is as if all the graphics have been removed and only the frames and text remain. I have a GeForce chip. I wonder if there is a connection.

On some sites, I only get pictures if I click on the link.

I may have to do a restore and try to return to a point before running Windows Repair AIO.

If the stalling on boot returns, I may have to delete and reinstall windows.

I have done a System Restore.

Something went wrong or something IS wrong with the Windows Repair AiO program from tweaking.com.  It messed up the graphics (GUI?)

For example I would click an email in the inbox. The system would know that I have clicked it but I could not see the checkmark. It was invisible.

I tried updating my GeForce graphics driver but I already have the latest.

Now after the system restore, Win seems to be running normally (it always takes a long time to load up but it is not stalling.)

I want to thank boopme for helping me.
