Starting a couple of days ago, I started getting this pop-up 2-3 times a day:

Attached File  Dropbox 20170309 1451.jpg   23.63KB   0 downloads

The contents of that log file are:

Traceback (most recent call last):
File "dropbox", line 6, in <module>
  File "dropbox\client\main.pyo", line 6, in <module>
  File "dropbox\client\trademarks.pyo", line 20, in <module>
  File "dropbox\client\gandalf.pyo", line 25, in <module>
  File "dropbox\event.pyo", line 13, in <module>
  File "psutil\__init__.pyo", line 126, in <module>
  File "psutil\_pswindows.pyo", line 30, in <module>
RuntimeError: this Windows version is too old (< Windows Vista); psutil 3.4.2 is the latest version which supports Windows 2000, XP and 2003 server

I thought I removed Dropbox from the startup list when they dropped support for XP. It's applet icon is no longer in the taskbar, but it must still be running somewhere.

Checking Add or Remove Programs, I see that Dropbox is still installed, but it says that it was last used in 2011.

Is there a way I can find out if it is running and stop it? Or should I uninstall it?

Thanks, CM

Running Win 10 & Office 365.

Cynthia - There is an entry in the Registry that causes the application to run each time you login. You can check this by looking in the registry at this location:

My Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Run

If you see the entry: Dropbox Update and it is pointing to this location, "C:\Documents and Settings\butlcx\Local Settings\Application Data\Dropbox\Update\DropboxUpdate.exe" /c   then that is your problem. The application is trying to update, but Windows XP is no longer supported.

You can delete this entry from the registry and then reboot and that will stop the error, because the system will no longer try to update the application. However, since Dropbox is not longer supported on XP, you may as well uninstall it.

Uninstalling it seems to have solved the problem. Thanks.
