Here's the scenario: Prior to signing off for the night I usually run a scan with SAS after updating database with latest definitions. However, it takes over 5 plus minutes to see the green progress bar function at a snail's pace. This has been happening sporadically over several weeks.. I have uninstalled and reinstalled to no avail. Have done scans with other utilities...no problem.

I previously posted about this problem but received no solution. So thought I'd try again.

I haven't made any kind of changes prior to this occurring. Someone suggested that it might be my ISP ??

Has anyone else had this experience ? I guess I could live with this but it is annoying.

Appreciate any insights or suggestions.

Hi, sikntired!

With all due respect, did you reboot your PC between the uninstall and reinstall? This is essential, because otherwise, the uninstall can be unsuccessful.

If a normal uninstall and reinstall does not help, then please try the two alternate uninstall methods here, one at a time: http://www.superantispyware.com/supportfaqdisplay.html?faq=47

Good luck! :)

Hi midimusicman79

Thanks for your response. Don't recall if I did reboot after uninstall as I've done this several times. But will keep that in mind as I uninstall using Programs and Features. If that does not work, I will follow the two alternate uninstalls in the link you have so graciously provided.

Will report back with any success.

Thanks again

Well, no success !! (sigh) Tried alternative suggestions as well.

After uninstalling and reboots tried to download from author's site provided by BC, and guess what, the download is going at a snails pace showing that the download will complete in about 18 minutes and xxx seconds. WHAT??

Unless someone can come up with a solution, it appears there are two choices. Either live with it or uninstall and forget it.

Hi again, sikntired!

Very sorry to hear that :(. However, I just tried to download SAS myself, which only took 5-20 seconds, and the Definitions Update only took a few seconds too. (And FWIW, I even have a fairly slow Internet connection, i.e. approximately 8 Mbps.)

You can also submit a SAS customer support request here, by choosing the last option on the list: http://www.superantispyware.com/precreateticket.html

If you do not see your question/description above, please select "None of the above" and click the the "Continue" button to submit a customer support request and a live person will assist you.

Sorry I personally cannot help you any further, but anyway: Good luck!

Have you tried downloading the manual update installer to see if it downloads and installs normally or is also slow?

Thanks for trying to resolve this situation, appreciate your time

Hi Platypus,

I went to SAS download site via DuckDuckGo and downloaded the latest version from their site. The download took less than 30 seconds. Later on today, I will attempt to update the definition database and hopefully it will go well. If not, I will try the manual installer from the link provided.  Will report back with results.

Thanks for your help

@Platypus,

Well I tried to update definition database as I normally do and it still moves at a snail's pace. So, I downloaded and ran the manual installer through the link provided and it updated in about 30 seconds. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

But I must admit that I am still irked that I cannot update via normal routine. Still would like to know where the culprit lies. I'm skeptical about it being my ISP, but stranger things have happened :scratchhead:

I haven't installed anything new and am at a loss for any reasonable explanation :(

It does sound odd. How difficult would it be to get the system temporarily on another connection to eliminate some strange kind of throttling by the ISP?

Sounds interesting. Just exactly how would I go about doing that?

I stopped using it almost two years ago since, Malwarebytes is more effective and it's Premium version offers more protection that SAS Pro.

Thanks quietman7 for your response and advice. Your opinion will most certainly weigh heavily in my decision to choose an alternative.

Attempting to update definition database through manual installer has proven to be a chore as it too progresses at a snail's pace. With Platypus' suggestion I thought I could at least update but alas it was not meant to be. :(
