All advice points to 8GB of RAM, but so far even used machines are not much less than a new machine. What can I expect from 4GB?    I already have 3 PC's a new mac seems overkill. I am just starting out so not sure I would need to have too many programs running at once.  a mini mac is priced right, but my needs are portable.  thank you in advance.

Apps as in software or game creating? 8gb should be plenty, however if you are dealing with graphic intense applications such as graphic design or high-resolution photography, you might consider 12 or 16 gb, but this is in rare cases.

What program are you using to do these if you don't mind? I'm a game creator myself :)
