Am I infected or do I have a system problem?

I have an Acer Aspire E15 and am running Windows 10 Home.

 

I seem to have multiple problems.

 

On startup I get this message:  FATAL ERROR.  Internal error: Cannot create tempory directory.

When I click on 'OK' it continues normaly.

 

When I attempt to open a 'Word' file I get this message:  FILE IN USE.  Locked for editing by 'other user' Do yoy want to: Open a read only copy?

If I click on 'OK' I get:  Word experienced an error trying to open the file.

 

In 'OUTLOOK' when I click on 'Send/Receive' I get the following error: Task "<email address>" - Sending' reported error (0x800CCC13) 'Cannot connect to the network. Verify your network connection or modem.'

I seem to be getting all Emails but cant send.

 

I have 'Bitdefender Total Security 2017' installed.

I created a Bitdefender Rescue CD and ran it in rescue mode from the disc drive. It reported no problems.

If I do a quick scan it shows no problems.

A full system scan runs to about 45% and then stops, although the file number seems to continue running.

 

I would greatly appreciate any help.

  • Checkmark the following checkboxes:

    • List IP configuration
    • List Winsock Entries
    • List last 10 Event Viewer log
    • List Installed Programs

  • Click Go and post the result (Result.txt). A copy of Result.txt will be saved in the same directory the tool is run. Note: When using "Reset FF Proxy Settings" option Firefox should be closed.

This was downloaded and extracted but does not run. I read on the website that this name could be recognised and blocked. I changed the file name to iexplore.exe but the program still did not run.

Ok, you did have some bad stuff, but you also have corrupt files. We can try a file repair. I recommend you back up what is important first.


EDIT remove what ADwcleaner found

Please download AdwCleaner by Xplode and save to your Desktop.
  • Double click on AdwCleaner.exe to run the tool.
    Vista/Windows 7/8 users right-click and select Run As Administrator
  • The tool will start to update the database if one is required.
  • Click on the Scan button.
  • AdwCleaner will begin...be patient as the scan may take some time to complete.
  • After the scan has finished, click on the Logfile button.
  • A window will open which lists the logs of your scans.
  • Click on the Scan tab.
  • Double-click the most recent scan which will be at the top of the list....the log will appear.
  • Review the results...see note below
  • After reviewing the log, click on the Clean button.
  • Press OK when asked to close all programs and follow the onscreen prompts.
  • Press OK again to allow AdwCleaner to restart the computer and complete the removal process.
  • After rebooting, a logfile report (AdwCleaner[CX].txt) will open automatically (where the largest value of X represents the most recent report).
  • To open a Cleaning log, launch AdwareClearer, click on the Logfile button, click on the Cleaning tab and double-click the log at the top of the list.
  • Copy and paste the contents of AdwCleaner[CX].txt in your next reply.
  • A copy of all logfiles are saved to C:\AdwCleaner.
  • -- Note: The contents of the AdwCleaner log file may be confusing. Unless you see a program name or entry that you recognize and know should not be removed, don't worry about it. If you see an entry you want to keep, return to AdwCleaner before cleaning...all detected items will be listed (and checked) in each tab. Click on and uncheck any items you want to keep.

Please run chkdsk /r and sfc /scannow

Click on the Start orb startorb_zps06e1f985.png , type in cmd in the Search programs and files box. When cmd is seen in Programs right click on it, then click on Run as administrator.

You will see a screen similar to the one below.

Type in chkdsk c:/r then press Enter.

You will receieve the message "CHKDSK cannot be run because it is in use by another process. Would you like to schedule this volume to be checked the next time the system restarts? <Y/N>".

Type in Y and press Enter.

Restart your computer to start the scan.

This will take a while to run, please be patient and allow it to complete the scan.

The sfc /scannow command scans all protected system files and replaces corrupted and incorrect versions with correct Microsoft versions.

Click on the Start orb startorb_zps06e1f985.png, the type in cmd in the Search programs and files.

cmd will appear in Programs above, right click on it, then click on Run as administrator.

If you are prompted for an administrator password or for a confirmation, enter the password, or click Allow.

A page similar to the one below will open.

Are you running both an admin-level and a standard account?  I'm wondering if a program installed under the admin-level acct is being started under a standard acct.

Hi boopme,

 

I have run chkdsk /r and sfc /scannow and it appears that all is well now. It seems that there are no more error messages popping up. I tried a few Word files that were giveing problems and they look OK now.

 

I am very grateful for your help in getting me through this.
