Hi all,

OS: Windows 10 64-bit, browser: Chrome Version 56.0.2924.87 (64-bit)
Often when I search with Chrome/Google a page pops up, normally PCKeeper, How to Solve Problems with Windows 10. The URL is like this:
Another symptom is that text on web pages (including this forum) is peppered with links with a little green arrow icon. Hovering gives a popup preview with the words 'ads by Ads' as another link at the bottom. Clicking this gives a helpful-looking page, reassuringly titled 'Advertising Support', that advises me that I can remove 'Ads' software using Add/remove programs. I have looked and I cannot see PCKeeper, I cannot see Ads and I cannot see any other likely looking culprit. I have checked Chrome extensions and there is nothing supicious there. I have captured an image of one of these links with the green arrow, but i cannot see how to attach it here.

Also, Facebook is refusing to load, other than a few headers. I presume this is related.

I have run:

  • Avast antivirus scan
  • Malwarebytes
  • Adw cleaner 4

but the problem persists.

One other detail, exactly the same thing has happened, apparently simultaneously, on the Chrome browser on my works laptop. Same malware programs used, except Panda instead of Avast. Also tried Trend Micro Housecall. It might make sense to address both PCs in parallel, or it might confuse things.

Thanks for reading, I hope I've been clear. Let me know if more details needed. I would really appreciate your help guys & girls. Over to you...

If only Chrome is affected...

Reset Chrome...
Click on "Customize and control Google Chrome":
Click "Settings" then "Show advanced settings" at the bottom of the screen.
Click "Reset browser settings" button.
Restart Chrome.

If the above didn't help....

Reinstall Chrome...
If you want to save your bookmarks...
How to Backup Bookmarks in Google Chrome
If you want to save your passwords as well see here: http://www.intowindows.com/how-to-backup-saved-passwords-in-google-chrome-browser/

  • Close all Chrome windows and tabs.
  • Go to the Start menu > Control Panel. (Windows 8 users: Learn how to access the Control Panel)
  • Click Programs and Features.
  • Double-click Google Chrome.
  • Click Uninstall from the confirmation dialog. Delete your user profile information, like your browser preferences, bookmarks, and history, by selecting the "Also delete your browsing data" checkbox.

Install fresh copy.
