I have downloaded a movie from the net and winodows media player and quicktime wont let me view tthe film.

Is it because of DRM or don't they know how to play the file?

what is drm????????????
iit just wont let me play it. it says the file is wrong or it isnt a movie.

Try downloading ffdshow.

i have downloaded that program but i cant work out how to use it. Also iam trying to burn it onto dvd but once again it wont let me. if you havent already worked out i am new to this whole side of computing.

You don't need to do anything with ffdshow but install it. It should setup itself to be used by your media player, to decode most of the common movie formats you find on the net. I use it with Media Player Classic.
