Hi,

New: Hijackthis log below. Do I have syswow64 virus?

I'm at a disadvantage because I do not have continued access to the Win10 laptop in question. I can describe from memory.

The laptop microphone automatically mutes itself. Googled it and learned to look for  an svchost.exe process running under the user's name - and there is, it's there. I went to the services running for the bad svchost PID and there are four of them and I'm kicking myself here - I don't remember the name of service, but it seemed "unusual".

So an svchost running under a pc user name is suspect. I ran malwarebytes (w/rootkit enabled), SuperAntispyware, AVG and they didn't detect it - it was still running after the scan/disinfects and restart. There is an associated scvhost.exe in ...\system32 folder. its process can't be killed, simply restarts. I have not deleted that svchost in safemode or done any regedit yet wanting to hear back from more experienced folk in this forum. I was wondering if I've provided enough info here, if not I can try to get what's needed but I don't have constant access to the laptop.

I've heard I can go into system32 and delete svchost.exe and then go into the registry and delete traces of it. But is this "safe" to do? Why aren't the scanners seeing it?
