My Problem: So at times my PC will freeze up and the screen will glitch, if this happens while listening to music or watching a video the audio will still play as this happens. This glitching can last 1-3 seconds all the way to 10 - 20sec, after the glitching is done the screen will either display nothing(black screen) or will blue screen with the stop code VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE(This does not happen as much). From what I can see the glitching happens on the start up of chrome, when waking up the monitor, starting a video in chrome or when logging in or starting Windows. This has also happened in a few games in the past such as GTA V and 7 Days to Die, but for the most part games have not had this issue.

Things I have tried: Reinstalling Windows 10, Updating AMD drivers, Updating Intel Chipset and Drivers, Updating BIOS to 7.10, Replacing GPU through RMA, remove my CPU overclock.

Specs:

CPU: i5 6600k @ 4.4Ghz w/ Hyper 212 Evo

GPU: ASUS ROG Strix RX 470 4GB OC Stock

MOBO: ASRock z170a-x1 (NOT z170a-x1/3.1)

RAM: 16GB(8GBx2) @ 2400Mhz

Storage: 120GB SDD(Boot Drive), 1TB HDD and 120GB SSD(Because I ended up with 2)

PSU: Corsair CX650m

System Manufacturer: Custom Build by Me

OS: Windows 10 Home 64bit

Age of Install: About 1 month

Original OS: Windows 8.1(Purchased by me)

Just a note about my motherboard. One of the RAM slots is damaged from a hair that caught fire in it. This was not done by me, as an employee at Canada Computers was installing the RAM at the time trying to fix another problem with the system. I was told that the motherboard should be fine other than the slot and RAM would be useless.

Other than that, thanks in advance for your help.

Added some things to the specs in the original post. Also, I had perfmon running for 5 minutes without anything really happening, if that is normal I can rerun it.

Hi,

Please remove the following programs immediately as they are known to cause random BSODs, even when not used to overclock:

MSI Afterburner
RivaTuner Statistics Server
I notice that you may not be running your manufacturer's specified drivers. Please use these drivers instead starting with Version 16.30. When doing so, perform a clean install. If Version 16.30 doesn't work, try Version 16.40, then Version 16.50.

Regards,

Update: While running the 16.30 drivers I am getting some black lines on the screen on some logins but so far none have resulted in a crash, reboot or BSOD.

That's improvement. Try version 16.40, again execute a clean install.

Okay, the 16.40 drivers crashed while trying to play Overwatch(A game I have never had an issue with). This crash forced me to restart my PC to get the drivers up and running again. I am going to go try out 16.50 now.

So 16.50 failed too. The system froze up while playing overwatch and then forced me to restart. Going to downgrade back to 16.30 for the time being.

Thanks for the update. This appears to be one of those cases where playing with the video drivers is key.

New update: received a BSOD after a lot of screen glitching. The stop code was VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE atikmpag.sys. This happened while using 16.30.

What would you suggest I try next?

While I'm searching for stable AMD drivers, will you please run Speccy?

:step1: Speccy by Piriform

• Download and save Speccy from here.
• Right-click on the downloaded ZIP file, click Extract all, taking note of where the files will be extracted, and then hit Extract.
• Open up the extracted folder, right-click on Speccy64.exe, and select Run as administrator. Please accept any User Account Control prompts.
• After waiting a while, click File, then Publish Snapshot.
• Hit Yes to the Publish Snapshot dialog, then click Copy to Clipboard. Paste the URL in your next reply.

Regards,

bwv848
