internal speaker is disconnected and will not reconnect

My son's ASUS laptop (Windows 10) suddenly indicated his internal speaker is disconnected. When he runs troubleshooting, it indicates this, but when he attempts to connect, nothing happens

Go into Device Manager > find Sound video and game controllers > expand the drop-down > under audio devices... right-click and and choose uninstall (do not check box to uninstall drivers). Reboot the machine... may take two reboots.
