Got a free laptop and fixed it. It has windows 8 and can't download apps or anything because it's "outdated". Do u have to use a USB to upgrade to 8.1? Like the internet says or is there a more easy way?

Personally, I would do a clean install on a laptop that was given to me. Is this the free HP laptop you posted about in your other thread? I was under the impression it had Windows 10 installed, sorry. You can reinstall Windows 8.1 using the media creation tool here.

Use the diskpart commands I posted for a clean install.

Edit: You can upgrade to 8.1 via the store.

That would be the Windows App Store.
