Have w-7 Ult x64 with virtual drive.  When rt-click the virtual drive, a pop-up play list presents 'Play with VMP1'.  There is no such program and if installed it has been so long ago I cannot remember it.  Have searched but can not identify VMP1.  Have tried to go tho the VMP file in the System to delete it but it won't allow it , saying "it is in use".  There is no VMP program shown in Programs and Features. Decided it is time to go after the bugger!

Anyone help me identify it and PURGE it from my computer?

Thanks

Google returned the following:

https://www.google.com/search?q=what+is+VMP1%3F&oq=what+is+VMP1%3F&aqs=chrome..69i57.4917j0j1&sourceid=chrome&ie=UTF-8#safe=strict&q=what+is+VMP1+hardware+software%3F

Anything on that page look familiar?

Until we know what it is, we cannot tell you to delete same.

Guess I didn't use the correct search engine, I got nothing on VMP1.  Thanks for the link.  Apparently it is AUDIO related.  The computer has an INTEL i-7 quad-core.  Wonder if it was loaded in something when the computer was built (couple years ago).  No recollection of anything it could be associated with.. It has a VIA Hi-def audio deck installed.  Could they be related?

Thanks Roland

Dunno, let's await wiser heads than I to advise us further.

Please download MiniToolBox  , save it to your desktop and run it.

Checkmark the following checkboxes:
List last 10 Event Viewer log
  List Installed Programs
List Users, Partitions and Memory size.

Click Go and paste the content into your next post.

Also...please Publish a Snapshot using Speccy taking care to post the link of the snapshot in your next post.

Go to Piriform's website, and download the free version on the left.  Click Download from Piriform.com (the FileHippo link requires an extra click). Or if you want to use a portable version of Speccy (which doesn't require installation), click the builds page link and download the portable version. You will now be asked where you want to save the file. The best place to put it is the Desktop, as it will be easy to find later.

After the file finishes downloading, you are ready to run Speccy. If you downloaded the installer, simply double-click on it and follow the prompts until installation is complete. If you downloaded the portable version, you will need to unzip it before use. Right-click the ZIP file and click Extract all. Click Next. Open up the extracted folder and double-click on Speccy.

Once inside Speccy, it will look similar to this (with your computer's specifications, of course):

post-33068-0-86653600-1480692866_thumb.j

Now, at the top, click File > Publish Snapshot.

Click Yes > then Copy to Clipboard

Now, once you are back in the forum topic you are posting in, click the ADD REPLY or REPLY TO THIS TOPIC button. Right-click in the empty space of the Reply box and click Paste. Then, click Add Reply below the Reply box.

Post the details of this "VMP file", please...and thef file path on your system.  I see nothing indicating that such is vital.

If it's in use when you try to delete it...I would just go to Task Manager and kill whatever process is using it...then delete it.  Or try deleting it while in safe mode.

Well, Learned something today.  There is no VMP file on my computer in either the ProgramFiles or ProgramFiles(x86).  I believe what I saw was a VIA (microsoft install?) file instead.  It has been quite awhile since I dug into it. After studying further I now find that the only time PLAY WITH VMP1 pops up is when playing a (.ISO) video mounted on VIRTUAL CLONE DRIVE.  If a .ISO video is played directly from the HDD it does not appear.  Have another computer with the same system that has VIRTUAL CLONE DRIVE on it and it does not show PLAY WITH VMP1 at all.  It must somehow be connected with the VIRTUAL CLONE DRIVE mounted on the offending unit.

This reminds me of the old joke; "Doctor, It hurts when I move it"  to which he responds, "Then don't move it".  Probably the same "solution" here??

Thanks again LOUIS, sorry to have bothered you with this..

I learn something every day...every request for understanding/assistance prompts me to go to Google and look up subject matter about the many things I am/was unaware of.  This enhances my growth as a person...nothing to sorry for, it's how I expand from "what I think I know" to "what I now think that I know" :).

Happy computing :).
