Hi.

I'm trying to install Adobe Reader. At first I got the message saying that a newer version was already installed, but there is no version of Reader on my laptop. Then I got a config error when trying to install.

It seems like config errors are a common problem on my laptop.

How can I install Reader?

Thanks.

Try their cleaner tool then try installing. http://labs.adobe.com/downloads/acrobatcleaner.html

Thanks. I ran the cleaner tool which said it uninstalled everything. Upon trying to reinstall I got the newer version already installed message. I do have Creative Cloud. Is it part of that? If so, why won't a PDF file open automatically?

Looks like you have to install it as an app from within creative cloud, see here https://helpx.adobe.com/creative-cloud/help/download-install-app.html  (scroll down a bit)

I do not have any experience with creative cloud.

No. Installation failed. I'm going to try to use Sumatra, an alternate PDF reader instead.
