I've tried numerous solutions from around the interwebz, I hope someone can help me.

OS is Win 10 Ent LTSB N 2016 x64.

The search button on the taskbar does not work. Click it and it does nothing, change to search box and it doesn't accept characters. The search service is running and passes troubleshooting "tests".

Any ideas please?

How often do you restart?  I've seen machines where the search seems to hang and it is cured by a reboot.

It's a new installation. I'm testing networking, policies and other applications on it. Documenting how to fix known bugs for my environment.

It's probably been restarted 10 times in the last 2 days.

Sounds silly... but can you list what things you've tried, so we don't suggest useless things? :) BTW, I heard that avast! and Dropbox were causing issues like that...

restarted, reconfigured search services, taskbar services, system registry settings, system protection settings, deactivated group policy templates, removed and added account types... and more.

I'm open to any ideas though, even if I've tried something similar I'll have a go.

Do you think running the Start Menu Troubleshooter would possibly fix an issue with the Search bar?

That is expecting a domestic version of Win 10, doesn't work on LTSB, complains that there's no Cortana.

(both of the above)

Does search fail on a new user account?

I'm starting to get the feeling the only way I'm going to get around this is by using sysprep and WDS to PXE install my images...  then I'll be able to add the  <CopyProfile>true</CopyProfile> call.

Does search fail on a new user account?

Yeah, new user is fine, but then if I login a domain\local_admin account the function ceases to work.

New user will then continue to work for a while, then also stop working.

Came across this page. Seems like it references everything you tried.
