Was messing with my win98se system the other day and download speed seems to be caped at like 100 KB/s off my high speed 7Mbps internet connection.

Lan card is a hardware quality T100 3com card, what do you all think is going on ?

I used to happily run Windows 98SE on my Pentium III MMX and dial-up some time ago.  If this Windows 98SE used that LAN card really well before, suddenly now it does not, something was changed, hardware and/or software.  Do you remember any changes made immediately before this sudden slowdown?

Na hardly use the thing anymore, just my old win98se box for relly old games "dos" and don't know when the last time it was that i used it and the lan card in it is a full hardware 3com card so its not crap or anything.

Years have gone by since last i messed with it and just last week or something i was like bla.... ill fire it up and see if it still works, it didn't off the bat and i had to remove a lot of parts and clean em before the computer was happy, it was funny surfing the net in win98se with firefox 2.0.0.2, everything is broken on the net though i could probably post in this forum with it, went looking for a updated browser for it and couldn't find one :(

Got some good hardware in it too like a top of the line voodoo3 video card that last i checked goes for like $100 on ebay, anything 3Dfx video card wise sells well for vintage gamers, got a voodoo2 kicking around too that would sell for a good price if i put it up on ebay as well as a sound blaster AWE64 for pro dos games sound.

Surfed the net some when i had it up and running and did some downloads and saw things didn't want to go past 100 KB/s no mater what i did, didn't look in to it much but im shore if i fiddle with the thing i should be able to get to the bottom of the problem.

Out of boredom i was like bla.... ill post about it and see what happens.

Have you cleaned the computer from any dust? This includes: motherboard, connectors, etc. Sometime weird things happens if hardware get's dusty.
