Hey, everybody! I purchased a new Diamond Xtreme 5.1 channel sound card yesterday for my computer. My computer has Windows XP SP3, 3 GB of RAM, has a little more than 5 GB left on the hard drive, and an Intel Pentium 4 Dual-core 2.8 GHz processor. Yesterday, after getting home from buying the card, I went straight to bed with a fever. But, this morning, I tried to run the installation disc. I followed the instructions in the manual to the letter, but every time I would run the installation, an error message would pop up saying

"Setup has experienced an error.

Please do the following:

    - Close any running programs

    - Empty your temporary folder

    - Check your Internet connection (Internet-based Setups)

Then try to run the Setup again."

Error code:  -5001

I've ensured that the device is plugged in properly. I have followed the error message's instructions. I have disabled the on-board sound card. I've followed the manual's instructions. There's just one discrepancy. The manual says to click on the Install Sound Driver button, but the only buttons that I see are Driver Installation and Manual. Would somebody please explain to me what is going on and how to fix it?

Thanks,

DaBoss1325

Ok, I apologize. I was being a bit excessive in my drama. Please read my previous posts. If my problem has been mentioned in a previous post, please link me the post. If not, would you please explain to me how to fix my problem?

Thanks,

Have you downloaded the driver from Diamond and tried the installation that way?

Hi, Platypus! Unfortunately, the installation from the website did not work. Do you have any other suggestions?

I downloaded the files from the website you gave me, extracted the zip, then ran the installation, and it gave me the exact same error I mentioned in the first post.

5001 is a generic installer error code - is there a 10 digit number given in association with the code 5001?

Nope. Just -5001. If there's anything you think I could be missing, please tell me.

When there's no further code to tell us what is provoking the error, we're left guessing.

Standard first measures are as already listed, including empty the Temp folder, and temporarily disable any AV software running (disconnect from the internet). I would also suggest starting in Safe Mode and in Device Manager, uninstall the drivers for the previous onboard sound, and any other sound drive installations that may show, including if there is an unsuccessful XS51 drive install there.

You can also check if the Windows Installer is up to date: Click Start...Run, then type MSIEXEC. If the version that shows is less than 4.5xxx then install version 4.5:

https://www.microsoft.com/en-us/download/details.aspx?id=8483

See if the installation can proceed.

Ok, thank you, Platypus! I'll try those last suggestions you gave me, and if that doesn't work, then I'll just call Diamond support. You have been extremely helpful! Thank you very much!

Many Thanks,

Thank you for your suggestions, Platypus, but nothing is working! I even called Diamond support, and they couldn't help either because they said that error code -5001 wasn't a Diamond error; it was a Microsoft error! So, they sent me the link to a Microsoft support page to fix my problem, but that didn't work! I'll link the Microsoft support page I used. Do you have any other suggestions?

The error is generated by the Windows installer, but it's still possible that it is caused by an issue with the installation package supplied by Diamond.

With many unknowns involved, it would be best to see if the card can be successfully installed on a different computer. If the setup also fails on a second computer, that would confirm that either the card or installation package have a problem.

Another possibility would be see if the installer can run in safe mode.

Ok, thank you, Platypus! I actually tried the Windows installer instead of the installation disc, and it worked! At first, it said it was missing a file called ksuser.dll, but I found that, and it worked! The sound card is now running. But, I can't access the advanced configuration that would've come with the disc, so I would still like to figure out how to install the drivers with the disc.
