I know it's not the flashiest or newest, but my computer ran much more smoothly and faster until recently. I imagine I must've added some -ware that is taking up processing power. Any assistance much appreciated. I have two add-ons running in Firefox - ADblock Plus and Disconnect. Chrome Browser and Thunderbird also load slowly.

Your computer setup has nothing to do with the sudden slow-down, your system is plenty powerful enough. I will assume that your web surfing speed of access is still fast as it was, please correct me if I am wrong. Adblock Plus and Disconnect will not slow your computer. The fact that all the browsers you are using are doing the same thing means something(s) are loading that should not be there.

A starter suggestion:

> Go Here and download Adwcleaner, then scroll down the screen and download Junkware Removal Tool and run them. Allow them to remove anything they find. Do not download any other utilities on that page, they are specialized cleaning tools for certain situations, especially Combofix, which if run incorrectly, can damage your operating system.

See if that alleviates your problem. If no change, please post back. I like to start simply and get progressively more detailed if necessary.  :cowboy:

1)  System Restore to a time prior to when the problem started happening.  <--- Easiest, fastest and most-likely to fix the problem.

2) Uninstall Firefox using Revo, and then reinstall.

Please download and install Speccy to provide us with information about your computer.  Clicking on this link will automatically initiate the download.

The one piece of information the Speccy will not provide is the make and model of your PSU.  If you know what it is please post this along with the Speccy link which will be generated.

When Speccy opens you will see a screen similar to the one below.

speccy...1png_zpsr3irze6o.png

Click on File which is outlined in red in the screen above, and then click on Publish Snapshot.

The following screen will appear, click on Yes.

In your next post right click inside the Reply to Topic box, then click on Paste.  This will load a link to the Speccy log.

Please download MiniToolBox to your desktop.

Right-click on MiniToolBox.exe and select Run as Administrator.

You will see an image like the one below.

@Aaron....ordinarily, a system restore for corrupted system files would be excellent; however, if there is adware/spyware installed on the computer, it will not be removed by a restore, any more than a virus infection would be eliminated by a simple system restore. Reinstalling FF would have the same result for the same reason. The target files must be found and removed, if indeed the problem is an infection, and the only way to verify that is an analysis by scanning utilities.

Not true.  For a simple infection a System Restore is always the 1st response.  Not only does it have a high likelihood of "curing" the infection, it can also restore functionality on a machine that may still be infected.  For online computer troubleshooting and repair, running a System Restore is one of the accepted "First Responses" that a User can do.

You are also wrong on Firefox, for the same reason. And of course, all of this assumes that the machine is infected.  There's a gorillian reasons why things run slow, and three gorillan reasons why system files become corrupted.  Heat.  Bad power.  Hard drive errors. Etc...

I just had to correct another person on this forum in another thread, who wanted to condemn the computer as "infected" and then a few posts later come to find out the PSU was only outputting 7 volts on the 12 volt rail.

My suggestion requires the least amount of time and knowledge of the User and has the greatest chance of fixing or improving the problem. If I'm wrong, they can spin in all sorts of time-consuming circles, and if I'm right, the problem was solved at the first crack.

His primary complaint is slow Firefox.  Firefox is a fat, tubby bag of orange data lard.  Firefox is so fat and resource-hoggy that it will make other software load and run slowly.  He mentions his add-ons which tells me FF is his primary browser. So, his primary browser used to work just fine and now it doesn''t, AND it also slowed other things down to, that fat, over-bloated tubby vat of pig-lard Firefox.

I use Pale Moon, which is Firefox's scrawny, anorexic cousin. She eats 3 pieces of bird seed and then throws-up two of them in the bathroom when everyone else is eating ice cream for desert.  I might be wrong.  But if I'm right the OP gets his computer fixed in 15 minutes and in one post, vs. possibly several days and a whole lot of tail-chasing.  I like magic bullet solutions.

The following quote is from a post made by Mako, one of Malware Removal Team members.

A factory restore will remove most infections, but a system restore will not.
