I everybody. A week ago I came in rcontact with a virus or a malicious driver of some sort that shut down my system. I was stuck with a blue screen of doom as the Windows began to initiate.
I went through many forums to return to functional use and I finally did so by running the Windows installation CD, from DOS prompt I proceded to run FIXBOOT and my compute was finally able to boot again.
However, everything is really messed up.
- The first thing I did was clean out all my viruses, but then I tried yto restore and it said it would not be able to help my system and would not restore.
- I also cannot cut and paste and open pages do not minimize to the toolbar
- I cannot open any Word files because they need to be converted and I won't do that
- I have no sound and cannot play anything on the media player.

I'm sure there is more wrong but basically what I want to do is try to make sure the malicious driver isn't still present so I can boot from where I used to boot from and return to normal.

-How do I return to normal after trunning fixboot
-How do I check and clean my system of a corrupt driver

Thank You for your time in reading this I will be back to check responses in two hours after class

-Thank You, Blaine

Ps. I'm running windows XP

Are you using a Microsoft CD to do this - or a computer manufacturer's restore disk? If it's a Microsoft CD - try this website for instructions on how to do a repair install of Windows XP: http://www.michaelstevenstech.com/XPrepairinstall.htm

If it's another CD, please let us know the exact make and model of your computer.
