My computer Is really out of date and I've been meaning to upgrade it for awhile. I would like To get it back to high end specs and wanted to see If I could do that w/o replacing the board. Currently It overheats, which might just be the CPU telling me to stop overclocking it with its crappy drying paste on it. Anyway, I would like to at least be able to run Black Desert at 30-60 FPS With everything on High. I'm not a fan of liquid coolant systems, so If I can stay away from that option that would be great. Any whoo here are my specs.

Well from what i can tell your cpu is not grate when it comes to overclocking in any case, at best you can get 500mgz more out of that thing if you don't mind pushing the heat and watts way up to do it meaning it tops out at like 4000mgz or less with a lot of heat and volts, one thing i did pick up on and it is nice you have twin video ATI cards but at the time they were new they were far from being top of the line cards "$120 ish new" and only 128bit memory bus as well from some quick research their about on par with a geforce 8800gt or something meaning video cards that sell used for like $20 last i looked in to it, other thing too is have you checked how much video memory is being used when you put that game on high ? you only have 1gig video ram on the cards and from my research.

 

Theirs games now that can use up to 6gigs video ram depending on settings though the game your trying to play is older but with out being beside your system and testing the game i don't know whats topping out in the system.

 

Total memory use is what with your settings ?

CPU use is what with your settings ?

GPU use is what with your settings ?

Video card memory use is what with your settings ?

Max temp levels are what for the cpu/gpu under full load ?

 

As for cooling if you want to stay with air that's fine just know that the top of the line air coolers are "A" costly and "B" take out space like mad.

 

Sadly i think if you want to one up the fps your going to have to spend some to do it but with out testing things to see what getting taxed and how its hard to say what the bottle neck is in your system at the moment, and i wouldn't let the cpu over heat , you could end up with a dead computer given time.

 

So in a nut shell how much you looking to spend to upgrade your pc ?

Almost positive that my GPUs are bottlenecking my system. I'll have to check what my settings are when I get home but what I'm mostly worried about is that with my current MB I wont be able to upgrade my CPU. Spending wise I'm looking between $600-800 on parts, CPU, Video, Memory. Money isn't an issue right now but I just need to make sure I won't have a heating issue. If I have to I can use liquid cooling but I've never had to use it before and I want to try to use my cooler master Full tower if It can be helped.

Well with $800 you should be able to one up your system with out problems, and your right your mobo is topped out with the best cpu that you can put in it so theirs nothing that can be done their unless you replace both the mobo and the cpu, don't know why you keep going on about the heat topic, you using a stock cooler or something ? and ya your video card temps do seem a bit high for idle one was like 75c im guessing that's the one that's choked on air flow, case your using have good ventilation ?

I'm just worried that if I put a newer model GPU in that it will continue to have a cooling problem. So this is a topic i'm trying to stress. Anyway, what GPU or GPUs would you suggest? I was also gonna get two new sticks of memory.

The adorable mid-range video cards of late seem to be the ATI RX460/470 or the geforce 1050/1050ti, they come in 2gig or 4 gig flavors.

 

As for ram you seem to have a single 8gig ddr3 going, one more 8gig would do the trick i think for gaming though your investing in old stile ram seeing as the new mobos will all be using ddr4, case looks good but i see their are some fans for it  you have to get after the fact and don't come with the case, you add some in ?

 

My self as well iv had lots of luck with mixing ram up even in duel channel so my self with your system id just get more of all most the same or a close as i could get of the same ram and whatever, worse case just loosen memory timings some and all should be good.

 

What you say your cpu cooler was ?

ATI RX460/470 seems good enough. I'll just get two, and another stick of memory. Then I'll start saving money for a badass pc build.

You really like crossfire 2x cards don't you, look at the numbers here if you have the time, a single RX480 is better then twin rx470s and costs less too as well twin cards seems to have problems with micro shutter.

Yeah I do, but I'f I can get one that's better than two then I'd pick the one. My PSU Is either 500w or higher, I'll check it when I get home. Do you have a GPU preference?

Ya im a nvidia/sound blaster fan boy but only because i liked what was going on with the topic 10+ years ago when it came to nvidia vs ATI but that dousen't mean anything in this day and age, i stopped doing hardware research for the most part about 8 years ago and im just now starting to catch up on the topic, at the moment best i can tell for mid range or lower its a even fight when it comes to nvidia vs ATI, if you want high end $1000 video cards then its all nvidia all the way at the moment, seems the ATI RX480 is the best card ATI has to offer for home use.

 

As for the crossfire/SLI topic iv never bin a fan of it my self, twin or more cards in a single system dousen't give you 2x speed as well it pumps out way more heat / drains way more watts as well theirs the compatibility problem topic depending on game/software or micro shutters topic not to mention though i have to look in to it but if i remember right more cards drains more cpu power, something you don't want on your setup with the cpu you have and more cards seems to add in more latency to things, over all the topic douse little for me and iv all ways found it was just a nice marketing trick just to sell more cards

 

As well little bit off topic but its not a good time to upgrade your motherboard and cpu, seems AMD is going to push out a new line of cpus very soon and its going to shake things up price wise all the way around so its best for the moment on that topic to chill for like 1/2 year and wait and see what happens on the Intel vs AMD topic but you can't go wrong on the video card topic seeing as if and when you change out other parts down the road you will still be able to use the video card you get now, DDR3 topic more or less dead seeing as its all going DDR4 now but when you change out the mobo/cpu/ram you can sell em all as a package deal when the time comes if you don't want to keep em.

Anyway, aside from my nitpicking, I think shadow's pretty much said everything. A proper upgrade would be to swap out your MOBO and get a more recent socket but AMD Ryzen is coming along with their new AM4 CPU's so it wouldn't be a good time for this. Video card wise, an ideal world would mean that you'd get a 1060 6GB which are perfect for every game at 1080p and quite a few at 1440p. At the moment, the sweet spot is the 1050 Ti but if you wanted to, an RX 460/470 would do the trick.

Told ya im old school ;), just in the past 4 weeks i started reading up and catching up on hardware, and if you like that i still use a nvidia geforce 6 6800ultra 256megs ram on my main box but don't laff, i can play the original farcry at 1024x768 res and hole 75fps/75hz woot !

Bin playing a little of the first left4dead too, that games pushing my card some, have to keep it on min settings and all most run at it 800x600res just to keep the fps to hold 75.

I could do it with my hardware i have if i upgrade to a geforce 560TI "$60 used" soket 775 Q9400 quad core "$20 used" cpu overclock it to 3600mgz "i have a full size water cooling kit so cooling not a problem" and upgrade my ram from 4gigs to 8gigs "$22 used" and i would have go get off the winXP topic and setup win7.

Yeah, I'm also extremely rusty when it comes to tech. I built this machine when I was 20 and now its been five years. I've been trying to find reliable sources to improve my knowledge.
