I previously addressed about having trouble with SUPERAnti-Spyware in this sub-forum. Well, I am still having trouble with it. It takes forever for it to download and update definitions. I have used it for years but am progressively getting disenchanted about performance. It has been a second opinion tool  for me.

I looked around and found Emsisoft Anti-Malware which says it's free and is an on demand utility. I downloaded it as I thought it was the answer and a tool which has been recommended. However, I can't seem to by-pass 30 day trial. I just want a decent free 2nd opinion on-demand utility.

I have an antivirus installed. Just need the anti-malware.

Thanks for any and all suggestions.

By default Emsisoft Anti-Malware installs as a free fully functional 30-day trial version with real-time protection. After the trial period expires you can either choose to buy a full version license or continue to use it in limited freeware mode which still allows you to scan and clean infections. The freeware mode no longer provides any real-time protection to guard against new infections.

It was my understanding that at any time during the trial enabled period you should be able turn off all real time protection and just use it as on-demand scanner only. That may have changed...see Post #8 by Christian Peters in this topic.

...you can only switch to the freeware mode after the 30 Day Trial is gone.

You may want to check with the Emsisoft Support Team or ask in the Emsisoft Anti-Malware Customer Support Forum to confirm.

Zemana AntiMalware offers similar real-time protection as Malwarebytes...but it too offers a trial and can be used for free after expiration.

Some things are worth paying for, Emsisoft Anti-Malware [and Anti-Virus] is one of the many programs worth paying for.
