Hello. I have a Toshiba laptop that I changed the windows to 8.1. From that point on, Firefox can't access the Internet. I tried Chrome and IE and the same thing happens. I have the antivirus on and the network connection is working. However, for some reason the web pages don't open up. It would be considered a great achievement if I even reach the Google website. Other than that, no other pages are able to open up.

No. I only used the laptop through a network cable.

By the way, there is access to the Internet. I am able to use Skype. It is just that the browsers can't access the web sites.

Please download and install Speccy to provide us with information about your computer.  Clicking on this link will automatically initiate the download.

The one piece of information the Speccy will not provide is the make and model of your PSU.  If you know what it is please post this along with the Speccy link which will be generated.

When Speccy opens you will see a screen similar to the one below.

Posting this link worked from the second try. I can't believe this. Today, I tried to get online-and to my surprise it worked. Firefox and Chrome were able to get to websites. Later, Firefox refused to startup. Chrome still worked. I attempted to make a new post and Chrome froze up. After waiting a few minutes and seeing that nothing is happening, I restarted the PC. I quickly went online in Chrome, and this time was able to get to the posting page. This is weird. Almost looks like a virus infection...

You need to remember that those who respond to topics have lives outside of these forums.  I spend around seven hours a day here and have other activities which I need to address.  There are going to be times when my schedule will not coincide with yours, so we do what we can.  Please have patience.

Why is your antivirus disabled?

Sorry, I just thought that waiting for 4 days for a reply meant that the topic was closed or something like that.  I appreciate your help and input. I have it enabled right now. For some reason it was not on during that time.

Does this mean that there is no problem now?

For some reason, my Malwarebytes was disabled as well. I enabled it, and selected the option for it to start up with Windows.

And what happened?
