Its constantly there. From 'restart' to 'shutdown'. Don't know what is causing it. Perhaps some hardware problem?

Not exactly a lot of information to go on, but such a symptom is normally in the screen. If this is a system with a discrete monitor, try the monitor on another computer or see if the line still appears when the video cable is disconnected.

Boot from a bootable disk and see if the line remains.

If it does, then it's likely a hardware problem (which I suspect anyway - as it's rare to see that sort of problem caused by software)

Try checking your cables to and from the video card  and reseat them

If you have other cables, test with them also.

Please be sure to use proper anti-static precautions.

Good luck!
