A few months ago I got an oldish PC that I wanted the CPU out of, took it and the motherboard out, tested it, worked fine. Had a look at the CPU temps and they would fluctuate quickly from 37-39-40 and would do weird things like that. Try and run a game or anything and temps would go to 78 very quickly. The CPU in question is a Intel I5-2400. I got a new motherboard and a new CPU cooler and still have the same results. Whats going on?!

Cheers guys!

Cooler Master Hyper 103. My case is well ventilated, got a few case fans and I have the side panel off. At idle it will jump around the 38-43 degree mark.

Yeah I know, I found it strange for it to indicate 78 degrees, but I'm just going off what Specy says

You should use more then one app/way to check temps when they don't make sense, as well a really safe way to check if things don't make sense is to check the idle temps in the app then do the same in the bios, if the numbers aren't the same with in 5% or something then you know their way off.

whats this app saying about your temps ?

A screen shot would be nice just for fun.

And ya 3 heat pipe cooler, looks beefy, wonder if it cuts the cheese for a 95TDP cpu...

Just looking in to the cooler my self, not looking so hot for a 95tdp cpu and i wouldn't overclock with that thing.

Temps are high all over the place, what did you say the ambient temp was in your space at the moment ?

Do you live in a desert or something and its high noon.

And ya the temps look like trash, don't even want to ask you to do a prime95 run, might brake something.

Maybe, you have nothing to lose going thier on the bios topic, man 30C with the AC going....im in canada and its snow and -10c out side at the moment.

and i think you might need to one up your cooling in a big way if its that hot in your space all the time.

Because the PC I had yesterday had no heat issues, built this one today and its hot

Same cpu same cooler same case or something like ?

I'll do it and see what happens. Well that sounds a lot nicer than this heat! It's not always this hot...

No, I had an AMD system with stock cooler and the factory case it came with

Cool, going to game some, so it might take me 30 min or so befor im back in the forum, hope the bios update helps, could reseat the cooler too and see what happens with some fresh grease.

If nothing helps then i don't know what to say unless you want to run it hot and the computer is still stable at the temps it runing at,sadly runing a chip a high temps kills it faster, seen some die in like 2 years or less when their run in the 85c all day, depends on the chip of corse, laptop chips tend to be able to take higher levels of heat same with video card GPU's.

No worries mate, enjoy! Couldn't update the BIOS, kept getting "ID Check Failed". So I might take the cooler off and re-position it to see if it makes a difference. But it's weird to have this same issue with the same CPU but using a different Motherboard and cooler, maybe the CPU is stuffed? Thanks a lot for your help too!

Bla im a machine on the topic, and im only reged in to this forum for the moment, i need to sine up with more forums and i work from home and im looking at a screen like 60+ hours a week.

This forum is just something to do in my free time and chat about computers with people, something i like, though i need to get reged in to some of the more hardcore white hat hacker forums and pc hardware forums.

"ID Check Failed" ?

you know even with the same mobo their are at times different versions of the same thing when were talking about the same model, you might be able to pick up on the version number with some software like aida64 or speccy or not, if you can't look close at the mobo and the version number should be around their somewhere.
