Hey all

[Context] from previous related thread

AMD Athlon X4 860K Quad Core

Via AMD Catalyst Control Center I can overclock the chip to 4.6 GHz (never intend to go that high) yet even setting it to 3.8-4.0 GHz causes studdering in regular use and gaming. I know AMD is prone to high temps though I figured my current fan arrangement would suffice. The off-chance of leaks from AIOs have kept me away though should I consider one for overclocking this particular processor? Thanks for your time.

If you want a better cooler get a Cosair H75 and be done with it. Closed loop AIO coolers are sealed very well anymore. If you need help installing it, or one like it, just reply in the thread I will help you. Remember this is an investment that you can also carry on with your next build not just this one. Off chance of a leak is super slim with new AIO designs. I build with these all the time I can give you other model suggestions as well but I thought you might want to keep it relatively simple and at least have dual-fan built in. The H75 is dual fan (no need for extra screws for the extra fan mount like the H60 and no need for software control like an H80-H100-H115) and should last you a long time., and if and when you do another build you can easily carry it over to Zen ( I won't call it Ryzen it's a very stupid name AMD came up with that sounds like ricin), or Skylake, KabyLake.

Okay, and the push-pull arrangement is better. I'll order it soon. Thank you for the recommendation.

Edit: Should I replace the stock thermal compound or will it suffice? Still have some of the Arctic brand I purchased when I built this rig.

Bla the Cosair H75 is only a single rad 120mm setup, and looking at your case you can get a twin 120mm fan/rad in their just bolt the thing were your top 120mm fans are, my self id go all in and get bigger and get the H115, haven't looked at the reviews on it but the H115 should be bad ass.

In this review with 84TDP cpu after 60 min full load the temp hardly changes, numbers look so good i all most wonder if their lying.

The H75 seems like a wast of cash vs the cooler your using now imho.

You know the H115 looks so good i might just save up for one, my cooling setup is dieing in any case.

This one correct. That review reminded me I've never stress tested my cpu and monitored the temp. Going to use the AIDA64 Extreme. Turbo mode is engage though I need to check the fan settings in bios. I'll check back in with results.

Turbo engaged and all fans are set to 1.25 PWM Value / °C in bios. The system stability test has only been running for 20 minutes and temp is at 35°C.

35c is nothing, even with my setup im up in the 50c zone at full load with a limit of 72c for the chip, maybe you don't even need to change your cooler.

Downloading AIDA64 Extreme, going to bench my system with it to see if its telling me the same thing as prime95 just for fun.

50 minutes have passed and 35-36°C is the max it has reached so yeah I'll stick with my setup. This rig is at its prime for what it's worth. I appreciate the part recommendations and input.

Do share your results either here or PM.

Hemm Aida dousen't seem to push on my cores like prime95 douse, other thing that's funny is i have one core that likes to running hotter then the other, don't know whats going on their.

Ambient temp in my space atm is 26c, 5 min run.

My self id do a prime95 run and see what happens at you end, if i guess this right the numbers will be higher, by the way im running my chip at stock speed but under-voting at the moment, i drooped my mhz by like 25% vs what i use to have it at when i saw my cooling system was dieing.

http://www.mersenne.org/download/

just did a 60sec prime95 run and all ready my temps were higher by like 4c, seems it puts more stress on the cpu.

WOW that much, AIDA64 Extreme = Extreme fail , by the way did you do your test with out FPU and Cash ram enabled and both cores enabled ?

Just turning the cash ram off on a cpu in a test or in the bios is like turning half the cpu off.

Test should really be ALU + FPU + mmx + extended mmx + SSE 1/2/3/4/5 + 3dnow + extended 3dnow + full cash ram and more if their is more in this day and age, i haven't done hardware research in a wile so i don't know if theirs more on this topic when it comes to cpus in this day and age, really need to hit the books on the topic sometime soon and reg in to a hardware forum.

As well in my AIDA64 Extreme test pic it shows one cpu graph per core, guy in the i5 cpu + AIDA64 Extreme H115 cooler review i linked to he made like 3 mistakes "A" no cash ram tested "B" no FPU tested "C" why is it just saying one cpu core.

O_o douse the i5 cpu not have a thermal diode per cpu core like mine douse.

And come on +4c raise in temp past ambient on a 84TDP i5 four core cpu at max load with AIDA64 Extreme and the H115 cooler, guy that did the review should be fired out the door for incompetence or for lying lol.

Don't get me wrong the H115 cooler looks decent im shore but its not that good.

I'll run AIDA64 again with individual core graphs visible. FPU, cache, and system memory stress test added.

Just did some quick research and it seems theirs now AVX (Advanced Vector Extension) on some Intel cpus, im so behind the times......
