conextant line in recording

I have recorded lots of albums for friends, just before Xmas I recorded a Xmas album for a friend played some back to him was fine, following week sat down to convert his album and the Conexant line input had disappeared out of this laptop, please has anyone got any ideas how to get it back ?

Right click the speaker in the System Tray. Click Recording Devices. Right click in the box and check both boxes. Disabled and Disconnected Devices. Does it show up? What was listed before it disappeared. Stereo Mix?
