For the past few weeks my internet connection keeps getting dropped and it's happening more frequently now. I'll be using my Toshiba satellite laptop and all of a sudden I don't have a connection and I get an error when I try to renew my IP address....the only thing I can do is reboot. I'm running WinXP and I'm connect thru a cable modem (not wireless). Contacted ISP who are no help at all. I even turned off my firewall (still have WinXP firewall runnign) and it still drops my connection. Any idea why?

I must ask,are you running two firewalls at once?

I even turned off my firewall (still have WinXP firewall runnign)

What is the error message you are getting?
Chaos reigns within.
Reflect, repent, and reboot.
Order shall return.

The error message on my browser is just that the connection timed out - no other error message except when I try to renew the IP address, it says it failed. I noticed that this started to consistently happen after I posted on here last time. I checked all the programs I installed since then and it ended up being Ewido specifically the resident shield...once I stopped that I've had no problems and turned back my other firewall. I can still run the Ewido scan, I've turned off the shields since Sybot runs. Ewido also caused a slow boot up as well...it's still slower than before but i guess it's because of all teh anti spyware/virus software and firewall running.
