My system is a Dell XPS 8500 running windows 8

https://www.cnet.com/products/dell-xps-8500-core-i7-3770-3-4-ghz-8-gb-1-032-tb/specs/

vid card is a Radeon HD 7770 GHz Edition

12 gigs of ram and a 32GB MSATA drive. I have the white tower not the black.

A while (about 2 years) back I added a sound blaster recon sound card.

Two days ago my sound is gone and it says "no speakers or headphones plugged" in when I mouse over the speaker icon in the tray.

Thinking my sound card went bad I removed it and even did a full system restore. I still have the red x and no sound. Looked for the on board sound in the bios thinking it needed to be activated but, do not see it anywhere.

AMD high definition audio device is listed as working properly in the device manager. I even tried uninstalling it and rebooting. It came back in device manager but, still no sound.

Plugged headset into the jacks at the top of the tower and still nothing.

Tried downloading driver for onboard sound from dell. Installation failed because new driver is same as driver already installed. ( I read the log)

Any help would be greatly appreciated,
