Good evening,

Looking at a friends machine and its a doozy. Ran Adaware, Spybot, and CWShredder in safe mode all w/ most recent updates. Ran Trend Micro and Panda in safe mode as well. Computer is basically freezing after normal bootup. I am in selective startup mode currently with only ViewMgr and Explorer enabled. All hidden and system files are viewable. Deleted everything in Local Settings Temp Directory. System restore has been disabled. I am noticing that srvcat.exe and wreg.exe occupying about 140k of mem usuage in process tab of task manager. I truly appreciate any advice one can provide on this one. Thank you.

Hi

Uninstall from Add\Remove Programs:
Viewpoint Manager
Messenger Plus!
ShopAtHomeSelect - Sah Agent
ISTsvc
Morpheus

To remove ISTBar use please this Symantec Tool: http://sarc.com/avcenter/venc/data/adware.istbar.html
Follow Symatec's instructions for how to run it.

Please print or copy these instructions because you are not able to access the Internet in SafeMode.

Download Ad-aware SE 1.05: here
Install it. When you get the last screen, with the "Finish" button and 3 options, uncheck those three items.
Open AdAware and click the "Check for updates now" link. Close AdAware. Don't use it yet.

Download System Security Suite here:
System Security Suite Download & Tutorial. Unzip it to your desktop.
Install the program. Don't use it yet.

Make sure you are set to show hidden files and folders:
A. On the Tools menu in Windows Explorer, click Folder Options.
B. Click the View tab.
C. Under Hidden files and folders, click Show hidden files and folders.
D. Uncheck Hide extensions for known filetypes and Hide protected operating system files.
How to see hidden files in Windows

REBOOT into SafeMode by tapping F8 key repeatedly at bootup: Starting your computer in Safe mode

Run HijackThis!, press Scan, and put a check mark next to all these:

HUH, Virtumondo is still alive !

Download System Security Suite here:
System Security Suite Download & Tutorial. Unzip it to your desktop.
Install the program. Don't use it yet.

Use the Symantec tool again:

http://securityresponse.symantec.com/avcen...moval.tool.html
Follow Symantec's instructions for how to run it.

When the removal process is finished you will find a log on your Desktop . Don't delete it. Please copy & paste the contents of the log as a reply to this post.

With all windows and browsers closed.
Clean out temporary and Temporary Internet Files.
A. Open System Security Suite.
B. In the Items to Clear tab thick:
- Internet Explorer (left pane): Cookies & Temporary files
- My Computer (right pane): Temporary files & Recycle Bin
Press the Clear Selected Items button.
Close the program.

Post please also a new HJT log.

Hi

The only real pop up i am experiencing is a Windows Anti Spy window that appears when i run some of these programs.

The Symantec tool didn't find these Virtumondo files.

Download System Security Suite here:
System Security Suite Download & Tutorial. Unzip it to your desktop.
Install the program. Don't use it yet.

Download KillBox here: KillBox. Unzip it to your desktop.

Disconnect from the internet. Don not connect until the cleaning is finished.

Start Killbox

Select the Delete on reboot option.

Copy and paste each of the following file(s) to the field labeled "Full path of file to delete"
C:\DOCUME~1\BRIANE~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\niwyalp.dat
C:\WINDOWS\playwin.exe

C:\Windows\system32\hostx.exe

After each file press the Delete button (the button that looks like a red circle with a white X in it).

A dialog box will ask if you want to delete and reboot now - on all but the last file, answer No
For the last file (or first, if only one file), answer Yes

Your computer will reboot.

Run HijackThis!, press Scan, and put a check mark next to all these:

O2 - BHO: CATLEvents Object - {68132581-10F2-416E-B188-4E648075325A} - C:\DOCUME~1\BRIANE~1\LOCALS~1\Temp\niwyalp.dat

O4 - HKLM\..\Run: [*playwin] C:\WINDOWS\playwin.exe
O4 - HKLM\..\RunOnce: [*playwin] C:\WINDOWS\playwin.exe rerun

O14 - IERESET.INF:

Close all other windows and browsers, and press the Fix Checked button.

REBOOT your machine.

Connect to the internet.

Please post a new HijackThis log.
Everyday is virus day. Do you know where your recovery CDs are ?
Did you create them yet ?
