I came back to BleepingComputer for another problem because the people here were just so nice helping me with my previous problem that I knew I could trust them again. Thank you, but now on with this post.
So I usually check my task manager every once in a while and look at the processes and things. I look up some weird named processes that don't have descriptions to see if they're harmless, everytime they are. this time it's something weird..
So dllhost.exe, it says "COM Surrogate" In the description. I'm not a big computer wiz so you'll have to tell me what this means. Anyway,
I noticed today that there were two. I thought "Well how can there be two of them, running at the same time?"
I also noticed that one of them had been taking up around 3,000 k of memory, doesn't seem too bad. But then I noticed the other one is taking up around 20,000 k of memory. Thats a pretty big increase!
After a while of searching up things about double dllhost.exe's, people where also concerned and had the same problem as me but I never got a straight answer out of any of those posts.
What caught my attention was that soon after I was looking at it for the last time, the 20,000 k memory one closed. This freaked me out because I don't know if this is normal, or if something is happening.
So here are some things I would like you to tell me:
What does COM Surrogate mean?
What is the normal memory size of a real dllhost.exe process?
and is this normal/is my computer safe?
Thank you for reading and I am sure the people here at bleeping computer will help me find an answer!
