I’ve bought a new laptop with windows 10 and recovered my old laptop, Toshiba Satellite 650C to windows 7 with discs. It’s downloading and installing all updates until it comes to sp1 service pack, it fails to install whatever I do. I downloaded it as a standalone, run the update prepare thing and just about everything I can find on the Internet but it won’t install. I had an error code,800F0A13 which seemingly doesn’t exist???. Can anyone help

Regards

Please download MiniToolBox  , save it to your desktop and run it.

Checkmark the following checkboxes:
List last 10 Event Viewer log
  List Installed Programs
List Users, Partitions and Memory size.

Click Go and paste the content into your next post.

Also...please Publish a Snapshot using Speccy taking care to post the link of the snapshot in your next post.

Go to Piriform's website, and download the free version on the left.  Click Download from Piriform.com (the FileHippo link requires an extra click). Or if you want to use a portable version of Speccy (which doesn't require installation), click the builds page link and download the portable version. You will now be asked where you want to save the file. The best place to put it is the Desktop, as it will be easy to find later.

After the file finishes downloading, you are ready to run Speccy. If you downloaded the installer, simply double-click on it and follow the prompts until installation is complete. If you downloaded the portable version, you will need to unzip it before use. Right-click the ZIP file and click Extract all. Click Next. Open up the extracted folder and double-click on Speccy.

Once inside Speccy, it will look similar to this (with your computer's specifications, of course):

post-33068-0-86653600-1480692866_thumb.j

Now, at the top, click File > Publish Snapshot.

Click Yes > then Copy to Clipboard

Now, once you are back in the forum topic you are posting in, click the ADD REPLY or REPLY TO THIS TOPIC button. Right-click in the empty space of the Reply box and click Paste. Then, click Add Reply below the Reply box.

That error code means there are missing or corrupt files, which are preventing the updates from installing. You'll probably need to run sfc /scannow and the Windows Update readiness tool:

Windows Update...will not work with IE 8 installed on a Win 7 system.  Some time ago, MS dictated IE 11 as the only IE version currently supported.

https://www.onmsft.com/news/microsoft-support-internet-explorer-11-starting-january-2016

You need to install IE 11 before you can even begin to think about using Windows Update with Win 7.

I have tried to download IE 11 but I get the following

Operating system not supported

You need Windows 7 SP1 or Server 2008 R2 SP1 to install Internet Explorer 11

I tried download 2008 r2 sp1 x64 but came up with a bunch of downloads and haven’t any idea what is what or what I need

IMO, you are running in circles...because you keep trying to use the Windows Update mechanism, rather than doing standalone installs from the desktop.

Forget Windows Update.

Download and install SP1 from any of several locations, other than MicrosoftSee Here.

Once SP1 is installed...then obtain/install IE 11, standalone version.

Having accomplished those two tasks...Windows Update should now be accessible/usable.

Hi Louis, I’m probably running around in circles like a headless chicken lol

I’ve run the standalone and get the following message

Service pack installation cannot continue

One or more system components that the service pack requires are missing

Thank you  sflatechguy, I had already run sfc /scannow as Admin as well as Windows Update readiness tool but still stuck

Regards

I was sailing along nicely with Windows 7 sp2 when Microsoft sneaked in, uninvited, and installed windows 10, it seemed  OK so I went along with it beyond the 30 days when I could return safely to windows 7. Then things started to go wrong and I had to reinstall 10 several times. I looked up Toshiba support and the Satellite 650c was not on their list as suitable for 10, that didn’t bother almighty Microsoft. When it became impossible I tried to return to 7 with discs I had originally made. That was fine and updates installed until it came to service pack1, which won’t install. Microsoft in their narrow minded wisdom made it impossible to install service pack1 without IE 11, and impossible to install IE 11 without  service pack1. Catch22, mission accomplished Microsoft, force unsuspecting clients to have windows 10 regardless .

But thanks for your advice!! I can now use the laptop to prop up a wobbly table.

I would download/install the latest version of MS.NET...and then try installing SP1 from the desktop.

Well...SP1 was issued years ago. so that should not be surprising...but it is :).

How about installing that last version of NET that did not require SP1?

Exuse me butting in Hamluis, this may be worth a look..In this thread are instructions to fix this issue (very last post)

http://www.sevenforums.com/windows-updates-activation/214889-service-pack-1-wont-install-4.html?s=91cb947729ab72b76f3a1fa9946855c6

Ie:

I eventually got SP 1 to install (after several failedattempts through the Update Options that come with Windows 7). Yes, it would begin to install, but then, as above, fail. Btw, I had Windows 7 Premiumedition on my computer, and didn't have to disable my Norton anti-virus.

The only way I could get SP 1 on to my computer was throughthe link below, and followed those options - so delighted it worked:

1. Go to this Microsoft site (DISM or System ReadinessTool) - the series of accompanying images here will explain and shouldhelp, too.

2. Download the DISM appropriate for your OS (32, 64etc...you'll find them about half way down the page for Win 7 SP1). Note, Ihave a slow download broadband, so it took ages, however, it eventuallydownloaded, and so glad it did.

3. Also download the Microsoft Update Catalog in the abovelink (it's very small).

4. Type in your SP 1 number in this Catalog optionsafterwards (for me it was KB976932, so I put in 976932).

5. And from there you follow the instructions (as given inthe link showing the images etc.,).

It worked for me, and I downloaded the Windows 7 SP 1successfully (I needed it to update my Internet Explorer from IE 9.0 to IE11.0, as IE 9 was no longer supported, and so giving total grief when trying toview content in other websites).
