Hello. I've joined here to seek advice and help me learn about computer programming and web development.

I'm 39 and due to a bunch of weird family circumstances I've had to quit work and become a full time uncle. Now I don't want a blank, unproductive year on my CV so want to make the most of my year off work.I plan to do that by learning as much as I can about web development and programming. Hopefully gain a few qualifications.

There are quite a large number of very good on-line educational institutions that offer what you want.  Maybe start with Google, BING, and other sources, find the best 1-2 sites.  If possible, try to stay with entities that grants transcripts with credits that are transferrable to other places.
