Product Name: HP Pavilion 15 Notebook PC
Operating System: Microsoft Windows 8.1 (64-bit)

  • I press the power button.
  • Computer powers up.
  • I see the Windows 8.1 logo and the doting thingy that goes in a circle.
  • After a minute or so, when the password screen is supposed to show up it simply goes blank (black).

Please help and thank you.

Try this:

- press the power button

- wait until you see the circle thing start up

- press the power button to shut the system down.

Repeat this 3 times - on the 2nd or 3rd try, it should get you into the startup repair menu

Do any of the options there help?

The most common thing to try is a System Restore point from before this problems started happening.

Can you try getting into Safe Mode from there?  If you can get into Safe Mode, does it display the login screen?

My browser caused a flood of traffic, sio my IP address was banned. Hope to fix it soon. Will get back to posting as soon as Im able.
